Last of 2024 Lakeland Gunshow Report
Got going early this morning and wouldn't you know it TLawler was out the door already having been 4th in line. He's further out than us but beats us every time. Big crowd, lotsa cash changing hands. Many S&W revolvers of all shapes, sizes, prices, and conditions. J frames of all sorts starting at $450. Model 19's are commanding $4 figures now and there were many. I saw a 8 3/8" model 29-3 for $1200 in pristine shape, very nice for a beginning collector. One fellow had a dozen very nice N Frames with the wooden boxes that were priced accordingly. His wife told me to ask him if he was interested in the very nice 6" Model 27 I was selling. I asked $1200 but I forgot the wood box, wasn't interested even after I dropped $200 for no box. Walked maybe 50 feet and an old boy looked at it, I says $1200, he sez: "$1,000?"
Deal done although selling it was like giving away a child. Wish I'd brought more to sell. That 'ol boy had enough cash to buy the place.
The joke of the day: a "Clerke 1st" revolver was marked $325. When I was an FFL back in the 20th century that would buy a dozen and a half of them.
Chatted with Turnerriver and Ordnance guy, the nicest folks having a good show. I couldn't begin to list all we saw, most of it is out of my purview. I wouldn't know a Ballard from a Mallard. Them boys do.
Doc had to be back early, wife's friend is getting married so he will be expected to give a present. I told him to share his divorce lawyer's number with the "happy couple." They'll need it someday. We had a big laugh, both of have like 7 marriages between us.
I did learn that toting an item in a "rug" and going through the "whatchagot?"
dance is inefficient. As soon as I took the 27 and carried it upside down with a finger through the triggerguard, a sale happened in maybe 5 minutes.
We'll be back in January as long as one of us ain't dead. It's great to be able to tote in a gun and discuss transfer from one collector to another without the threat of trespass/ban for future shows. Hope it lasts. Joe
