IT'S GROUNDHOG DAY 2025
Happy Groundhog Day to all. As I type this, I am seeing a live feed of the fabulous fireworks display over Gobbler's Knob in Punxsutawney, PA, awaiting the arrival of the Seer of Seers, the world's most famous groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil. Fox Channel 29 News in Philadelphia has an app available from the Google Play Store that is showing the Groundhog Day ceremony live from the festivities leading up to the appearance and prognostication of Phil. There has already been an appearance by the Governor of PA, Josh Shapiro, who indicated that there were 50,000 people in attendance.
It's 19 degrees in Punxsutawney but the huge crowd is probably keeping everyone warm. It's a great tradition and I had the pleasure of being able to attend the Groundhog Day ceremony for 20 consecutive years.
And since this is a Smith & Wesson Forum, I could not pass up the chance to show my Punxsutawney Groundhog Club Commemorative Smith & Wesson Model 629 .44 Magnum revolver, complete with Punxsutawney Phil engraved on the sideplate and the date of issuance on the ejector rod housing.
And now it's official. Don't put away the long johns. Punxsutawney Phil has proclaimed that he saw his shadow, thereby meaning we will have six more weeks of winter this year.

Currently watching a news feed from the festivities where a overfed rodent (looking either stoned or deprived of coffee) was waved about until it noticed the sun casting a shadow.
Them Pennsylvania Germans are different.

I would have expected a Groundhog gun to be a Model 53. Woodstock Willy says no shadow. So take your pick as to whether the Vernal Equinox will occur on March 20 or not.

I rarely watch the news but turned on Fox and the groundhog event was the only news they had for quite a while. I guess there's nothing else newsworthy going on in the world right now.

Early spring here... That 629 is #84 out of 41 guns. Huh?

I once worked with a gal from Punxsutawney. In her youth, she had been Groundhog Queen. Not surprising, as her resemblance to Phil was uncanny.

Apparently S&W has figured out the best caliber for groundhogs...
African Safari rifles have pictures of the game animal they are made for on them.

My wife and I have a semi-tradition of watching a video of “Groundhog Day” on Groundhog Day. Planning to do it tonight.

The #84 matches up with the numbering on a series of knives I acquired that the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club commissioned over the years.

Yesterday one of our cable channels ran the Bill Murray movie Groudhog Day. Over, and over, and over, and over - all day long.
I thought that was a rather clever programming choice.

They need help !!!!
Those amongst us who willingly and wantingly get up at 4:00am to dress up in fancy attire and put on a top hat to go out in the cold and play with a groundhog need serious professional help...
