    Home defense

My 625 JM is my solution to uninvited guests in the night. Loaded with .45 ACP +P hollow points and having 2 moon clips handy and I feel better armed than if I was trying to operate my 1911's, Glocks, etc., in the middle of the night. There's nothing more instinctive than a DA revolver, the last...

    M&P Grip question

Hi to the group. Last week I happened across an old M&P model 1905 4th change. It has a little light rust on the bluing but has at least 95% of the original finish. There was rust on the shiny metal parts like the hammer and trigger and on the inside. I polished off the rust on the shiny...

686 spitting lead out of cylinder gap?

Texagun, it wasn't end play causing the issue, it was that the barrel face at the B/C gap wasn't square to the axis of the barrel. The S&W technician told me that when they install the barrels at the factory, they file the face to get the proper gap. If that's true, then I can understand a...

    S&W 686 Plus Trigger pull

Jerry Miculek has a very good instructional video on trigger jobs for S&W revolvers. He shows what to polish and what to stay away from. If you're at all handy with tools pick up the video. At the least it will show you how to disassemble the revolver and how all the internal parts act on each...

686 spitting lead out of cylinder gap?

I recently had the same condition with my 625 JM that I bought used. When I looked at the gap in the store it looked excessive, but checking with a business card wasn't too bad, so I chalked it up to my eyesight. I checked it when I got home and it was .007", a little big but not too bad. I...

OFFICIAL (IN STOCK) 9mm LUGER AMMO THREAD

My LGS guy told me about this site called gunbot. It scans the interned every few minutes and looks for availability of ammo from many sources in the caliber you choose. It's pretty amazing how easy it is when a machine is doing the searching for you. It tells you if it's in stock or if orders...

    Wadcutter Cleaning Help!

The Chore-Boy pads are copper, but are sometimes hard to find. Don't get fooled by other brands that look like they're made of copper. I use the magnet on my cell phone case to check before I buy them. So far, every one that I've seen in stores that aren't Chore-Boy are copper plated steel...

    Firing pin replacement.

BLUEDOT37: I read the thread and it sounds like you got the perfect storm of bad CS reps./people having a bad day/etc. When I sent my gun for service I spoke to 3 different people and each one was pleasant and helpful. Normally my luck will hook me up with the worst people to deal with.

    Firing pin replacement.

BLUEDOT37: Really, that's odd. If anything, S&W communicated every step of the way. I sent the email on Monday, they responded on Tuesday that they were sending a mailer. It came on Thursday. I shipped the gun on Friday, and the following Thursday I got an email that it was being returned. On...

    Firing pin replacement.

Tomcatt51: Good advice, I totally agree, too many people think that if they read it on the internet it must be true. I think I'll send Ruger's CS an email and pose the question to them.

    Firing pin replacement.

I have no idea, however, it came from multiple sources, so it's either tribal lore, or the truth. Either of the above, i didn't want to find out the hard way.

    Firing pin replacement.

Tomcatt51: I know that Ruger is really anal about mods to their guns. I bought my son a MK III 22/45 with the molded in grip panels. I got some after market grips that mimic the 1911 grip panels, but you have to drill 2 holes in the grip and thread the grip screws in. A lot of people on the...

    Firing pin replacement.

Hmmmm. Good to know. I had installed a Wolfe mainspring, trigger return spring, and cylinder stop spring. I have to pull the grip to see if they switched my aftermarket spring out.

    Firing pin replacement.

In the weeks since I originally posted this question which started the FP length discussion, Tomcatt51 said that if my FP was shorter he would replace it. Well, I measured mine and it was .483" long, so I ordered the Apex FP kit. I also checked the cylinder gap and found it was .007 on one...

File down a sharp cylinder latch

I have the new style on my ,45 and want to change to the old style. I saw this in the Dillion catalog and may give it a shot. http://www.dillonprecision.com/#/content/p/9/pid/25151/catid/17/California_Competition_Work__039_s_S_amp_W_Revolver_Thumb_Latch_S_amp_W_Thumb_Latch__Silver
