    Built a bench...

Store all your lead on the bottom shelf for a good stable bench and keep your powder measure close to the edge as a back-saver and your good to go.

    Reloading costs

Doing 45 ACP with 230 gr. lead for around $7 a box of 50. Get all my brass free. Once fired commercial. 44's and 357's are less than that with lead bullets also.

    S&W 25-5 45 Colt

I got mine 4 yrs. ago. Blue 4" pinned, 96%+ then for $625 to my door. Love it and more fun with a bigger hole than a 4" M-29. It's just the right package for 45 colt.

    Value of unfired 29-2?

It will still be worth $700 after you shoot it for that deal. Just treat it with respect. Normal wear can add character too. I have the exact same package. Even hunted with it, 1978 model. Still looks like 98%. A blue version.

    686+

    Those 3" L frame's are cool. I'm kinda look'n for a 686+ 3" to go with my 696.

    New 4'' 29-2

While the 29's have the power, if you want real fun, a 4" 25-5 is a real blast with the 45 colt. And you can load them pretty hot has well as down also. Them big holes are fun.

    4 inch 25-5 question

One good source is right on this forum. 75-100 bux would be about right for a decent set is the most I would pay. Most of the sellers are out to make a profit on grips that were take offs or scrounged from a way back gun show, instead of trying to give a fellow a decent break.

    4 inch 25-5 question

Judging by what they have been asking for the 4" 25-5 on Gunbroker, 700 is liveable. The 4"s are more rare than the 6" N frame factory stocks are still somewhat reasonable if you are not in a big hurry. They stopped the pinned barrel in the early 80's and if it's as clean as described, I would...

    Dirty Harry Collectors thread

Correct, one of the gun's is on display at the NRA museum, given to John Milius, the writer. Model 29's have been around since the mid-50's, although the first ones weren't labeled as such, but still the same gun. Again, the gun(s) was a S&W .44 mag.

    Opinions on this 29-2

I would'nt bite, I would 'Chomp" instead. That's a fair deal for today. I have a 6.5" 29-2 set just like that. With a 4" 25-5 to satisfy an N frame in that length. More fun than the .44 mag (although I load re-duced loads for it).

    S&W 686+(7 shot) 3"

Kinda look'n around for one of these in the pre-lock mode, with or without the dog leg and MIM parts.

What are the drawbacks, if any, to nickel finishes?

Shows every scratch, to shiny to shoot and hide, flakes off and harder to touch-up. Look's like something a cheap New Orleans pimp would carry. Either you like them or you don't, guess where I am.
