Bullet Selection: .38 Special Cases in .357?

Before breaking a sweat with all that tedious scrubbing, simply size and then flare several rounds of .357 brass. Then push them into each cylinder - it's OK to tap them in with a plastic mallet, then tap them back out with a wooden dowel. You want a really tight fit. The flared case acts as...

    Reloading .357 Mag Problems

I've got a handful of old .357 brass that's stretched beyond further use. I put it into the trimmer & just square up the case lip, flare it, then tap it in then back out of each chamber & it cleans down to bare metal. Used to use an old .40 cal bronze brush, but the flared case works better.

blue dot in .357 mag ?

I've been loading 12 Gr. Bluedot with various 158 gr bullets for hunting for about 20 years. Mild recoil & great performance in my 20" Winchester 94. Not even a hint of overpressure or flattened primers. I do store this load separately from my pistol ammo & it is all marked as "For Rifle Only".

    Smith & Wesson Knife Sale

Not sure why all the drama about warranties. You buy a $12 knife, and if you're enough of a knuckledragger to be able to abuse it to the point where it fails, then you go buy another $12 knife. In my nearly 50 years of knife ownership, I've lost more than my share of pricey knives, but I've...

    Am I crimping too much?

If you need to hire a mohel to remedy the problem, you may be using too much crimp. As already mentioned, in semiauto ammo, you only need to remove the case flare, so if you see a noticeable crimp, then it's too much. Nevertheless, after nearly 40 years of quality reloading, I recently tried...

    case trim question

Out of habit, I sort my brass by mfg. for all my reloads. While it may be more critical in higher pressure rounds, I do it for my .38's also. Brass can vary widely in actual capacity, and in .223, anyway, I do notice variances in POI between like loads using different headstamped cases. OTOH...

    Powder Dispenser doesn't like W231

231 & Bullseye are finer granulation powders than Unique, so there could very well be a problem in dispensing them thru your Chargemaster. Also, have you properly calibrated your scale? Go over the instructions to be certain & try again. I recently set up a new Chargemaster Combo for use with...

Cleanest Powder for Loading HBWC (?)

I just wipe my hands on my jeans. After all ... ... you eventually gotta do laundry anyway ...

What kind of 7.62x39 is this?

I have a case of some NATO headstamped 7.62x51mm ammo with translucent plastic bullets. Just to see if they really had any punch, I fired one into a phonebook leaning against my orange tree. I now have an orange tree with a plastic bullet embedded deeper into it than a short length of...

    45 ACP

Be aware of overpenetration when reaching for the handgun of your choice. If you live next door to me and touch off that .357 round that passes thru your house and into mine, I'm gonna exchange more than just polite words with you. Consider the .45 ACP, even hard ball, as a much better home...

Peters Std Velocity 22 Long Rifle

I grew up shooting in the late 50's to mid 60's so the Peters box looks very familiar. While everyone was buying the "Hi Speed" ammo, my Dad bought bricks of standard velocity. Made a big difference in my target scores.

    Dud-free .22 LR brands?

I regularly dump the dud bucket at the range & pull the bullets for casting. I recently disassembled several pounds of .22 ammo & didn't pay too much attention to brands, but when just now looking at the coffee can of pulled bullets, the Rem Golden Bullets really stand out. I just sorted out...

Let's talk about loading for J-Frames...

36-1 3", Target sights. I bought it because it's the only 3" m36 with target sights I've ever seen with the round butt. Either: 3.8 Gr. Titegroup pushing a Berry's 158 Gr. FP or 2.7 Gr. 231 with a 148 Gr. HBWC Both are great for punching paper, but for actual defensive carry, I have too many...

Let's ask the question another way. What is the WORST press you've ever owned?

I've been using my Lyman Spar-T press for over 35 years now with no complaints. A few years ago I got a 'new' press for heavier duty reloading - a Lyman All American that's likely older than I am. Both presses are good ol'fashioned cast iron & when properly set up & maintained, do exactly what...

    A LITTLE DISAPPOINTED

Sounds like either 2 different moulds used for your varying bullet lengths, or just plain poor manufacturing QC. You can go thru all kinds of calisthenics sending them back, or trimming them, or you can simply weigh & sort into like weight groups and load & use them as-is. Whatever your course...
