Congrats.
I just ordered one yesterday so I figure a week before I pick it up from my FFL.
If all goes well and after a few hundred rounds it will replace my Shield 9mm as my carry gun.
I love shooting my Mk II & III and one or the other and sometimes both go to the range with me every trip. I have not found any brand of ammo yet that either will chew through. I usually go through a couple of hundred rounds per range trip.
I use an old M16 Mil Issue cleaning kit for every gun I own and CLP.
The steel rods can be broken down or added to and meet every length of barrel I have including my shotguns. I just buy new brushes when the old one wear down.
After I clean my firearms I coat them with Barricade. Used to just...
Nothing wrong at all for not caring for a particular caliber.
I bought a couple of .40 cals over the years but they ended up sold
and back to the 9mm and .45acp I went. I have not a single
complaint about .40 cal it was just not to my liking.
I learned long ago the most useful firearm is one...
I put Talon grips on my Shield and they lasted all of 3 months before cleaning products dissolved the adhesive holding the grip on. Was worth the cost but I decided I did not want to use something that only lasted a few months. Switched back to the small size Pachmayr rubber sleeve with finger...
I wipe off the follower after shooting but only break down the magazine once a year to clean and very lightly oil the spring.
If I buy used magazines I tear them down and do a through cleaning.
I have test fired both Critical Duty 115gr. and Hornady Custom 124gr. and both ran fine. No hangups, stutters, or FTEs.
I currently have Critical Defense 115gr. as my carry round. The Hornady Custom are in my spare magazines.
My Makarov started doing this so I replaced the slide catch which was worn and no more slide releasing upon magazine insert unless manually operated. I spent $14 for a new slide catch and the problem was solved.
Well it may save a millisecond not having to slingshot the slide or pressing the...
I am so used to having a safety on my firearms I think nothing of engaging or disengaging them when ready to re-holster or fire.
Not having a safety on a handgun I own would be a strange experience.
Practice Practice Practice
I have rubberized Talon grips on mine but instead of wrapping the magazine pinky rest with the wraps I cut it in half and squared it off then stuck one half on each side of the slide serrations.
I used a hair dryer to soften them up and sink into the grooves of the slide a bit. Looks fine and...
I paid $10 ea for Pearce Grips base plates with pinky rest for my Shield at Amazon last year and . They are solid and extremely durable.

I do not love any firearm but my Shield 9mm has performed well with every misc. bit of ammo I have run through it.
I trust it enough to carry daily and that is all I need to know.
