I have to say that I am a huge fan of the sights that come with the M&P line of pistols. That being said, I am always looking for ways to improve the usability of my guns (especially those intended for carry). So in short, is it even worth it to replace the sights on an M&P that sees frequent belt-time? I'm sure this has been hashed out many times already, but I'm curious to see what folks have to say. Thanks!

I also liked the sights that came with my M&P's, but my old eyes were having a harder and harder time focusing on that front sight. I tried a HighViz fiber optic sight but it didn't pick up near the light I expected it to.

I decided to give Trijicon's new HD night sights a try and I love them. Super bright, large dot on the front sight, and night sights to boot!

Stock sights with color added works great for me.

I put a ameriglo tritium front sight on mine as with my eyes I need a bright front sight.

Have been very pleased with it.

I put an XS Big dot up front coupled with a 10-8 sight on the rear. The 10-8 was the .156 dimension designed for the M&P's. Quick to get on target, more of a self defense set up.

Not enough poll options

I don't really think the poll has enough options to cover even the majority of the variables and I'm not trying to criticize you for putting it up...I like reading sight option threads.

IMHO sights are like shoes
There are so many styles and sizes

It's not unusual for one person
to use 3 or more different types

I love the stock 3 dot sights on the shield

The Novak / fiber optic on the 5 inch pro not so much
but haven't decided what to try in their place

I adore the C-mores on my modified Buck Marks

Sorry, I couldn't respond in your poll and that is why.

Look forward to continued reading of people's opinions

So you have me curious

Would love to see a picture of this please...

The stock 3 dot sights work great for me. My M&P 40 FS came with night sights installed; I bought a set of OEM sights to replace them. I have fired a friends Ruger Redhawk that has Williams Fire Sights and I really like those, so we'll see what the future holds. I've always been with the camp that "if it's not broke, don't fix it"; and the stock sights work well for me.

Google: "Sights for old eyes"...

Advantage Tactical Firefly.

Trijicon HDs for me as well on both my M&Ps. Love the big bright front sight, I went with the yellow/green, and find it real easy to pick up quickly. And I like having the same basic sights on both my primary self defense guns.

Stock sights - good.
TFOs - better.

Going full crazy red dot - best:

I really like this, but I do think regular iron sights are better if you can see them. Alas, I cannot.

I voted "night sights" and prefer the Trijicon HD night sights with the orange front circle.

Good thread. The stock rear sights are an issue for me, I found them very distracting.

After a stint with Trijicon HDs (they consistently shot high, for me) I swapped in a 10 8 FO front sight, and simply blacked out the stock rear with burnt candle residue.

I picked the 10 8 sight because the FO rod is held in place front, rear, and center. In addition, it was at Factory height, meaning no shift of POI for my POA.

Alas, I don't shoot my FS9 much anymore, since I got my HK VP9.

Stock white dot sights are the most versatile.
I've tried them all. White dots, fiox, tritium, triti/fiox, red dot, plain black, etc.

I have found that it's hard to beat the white dots. I shoot faster times with white dots than any combo of tritium/fiox. I have an M&P45 that I bought off an LEO that had the factory night sights. I switched them out for white dots. While the tritium was bright, they just don't bring much to the table during most lighting conditions, and the white outlines are slower to pickup than solid white dots of the stock. You're trading off a marginal improvement in very dim lighting for a significant diminishment in most lighting. I'm a firm believer that the dimness that is required for tritium to shine is a level of dimness that you are not justified in shooting.
Fiox turns useless before white dots do as it gets darker. Fiox looks amazing in the outdoors or bright indoor fluorescent lighting. But the improvement is marginal over white dots.

I say keep the white dots, throw your money at a good rail light and appropriate holster.

I put these on my 5" Pro 9 today. Should have had the gun smith do it even with a sight pusher and a file I had to finish the rear with a punch provided with the set and a big hammed. Didn't mess them up to bad nothing a black Sharpie didn't fix and they will never come off. Don

PROnSHIELD

PROnSHIELD, let me know what sights you go with on your 9mm Pro. I too have a Shield and like the sights just fine. However, I hesitate to change out the Novak sights on the Pro because they are so accurate when I have time to acquire the target. But I have to admit quick acquisition of the target when shooting indoors isn't their strong point for me. I'm wondering if just changing the rear sight would make things better. Also, I've read about some 3 dots sights that are orange or green during the day but turn white at night so that you have the best of all worlds. Those sound pretty interesting to me. I wish S&W had offered the night sights they put on the 4 1/4" barrel Pro as an option for the 5" Pro, I definitely would have gone with them. Anyway, PROnSHIELD, let me know what you decide. Regards, Elliot45
