K-38 price in 1953 According to the Stoeger's "Shooters' Bible" of 1953, the price of a K-38 Heavy Masterpiece was $71.50.

I recently purchased a 1978 vintage 27-2. It's wearing target grips with the speed-loader cutout. My suspicion is that these are not the original grips, but I would welcome more expert opinion than my own.

Right, but you can't tell if they're serrated. Supica and Nahas mention a smooth .400" trigger as a factory option, but not a wide serrated trigger.

You're just a tad off. The four-screw has one in front of the trigger guard, not at the top of the side-plate.
