15-20 years ago Colt came out with a close copy of the WWI 1911 and WWII 1911A1 and both came in the blue collectors boxes. They are pricey now but I believe that is one that’ll continue to go up and make a great safe queen. The early WWI models were finished in the nice Carbonia bluing which...
Yes, side plates are fitted and getting one that matches with the bluing would be almost impossible. Either use it like it is as a carry gun or sell it if it bugs you that much. Do not try and fix it. That usually leads to worse damage and throwing more money ant it isn’t the answer. Just...
I went with a Winchester 1873 in 357 recently. This is made by Miruko and is very well built with an 18.5 inch barrel. I’ve since added a Tang peep sight.
There have been a few recently that folks received that were all original. If you’re on Facebook there’s a good 1911A1 page where folks post these as they receive them. They’re allowing 2 per person now. You got a good one.

You might save your money on a factory letter. According to Doc44 in the link to the other K22 there’s little chance that research would show a refinish.
I had a Pre model 15 that I sold a number of years ago that lettered as being shipped to General Van Orden at Evaluators Limited. Letter states it was 1 of 50. Probably the same 50 that is on your invoice. I’m thinking that this may have been more common than you think. It’s strange that this...
I appreciate all the suggestions. I really like the 21st Century except for the upfront pricing ($185) and needing to purchase additional shell holders at $16.50 each). But looking at reviews for that one (which are very good) lead me down a rabbit hole where I come across the K&M which is...
I’m looking at getting a hand primer so I can spend priming time upstairs since I’m my wife’s caregiver. Which brand and model is your favorite, and why?
The Mothers Mag and Chrome cleaner that you have will do the job just fine. Just go light and easy, doing a little at a time. The more black on the rag the more you’re taking off the gun, so take your time.
