    Shooting Chrony for Reloading Validation

I bought my Oehler 33 in 1978, still works well. When the sun is high in a cloudless 8400 foot elevation sky it has issues, which I have resolved by puting a diffuser over the Sky Screens - makes it think its a cloudy day.

(UPDATED) Washington State Drops AR, KS, MS and MO.

Man, I haven't been on here for a while! Bike for my June ride was a Suzuki DR650 - albeit with a Seat Concepts seat. Since then I've also done a short trip to WY (about 300 miles round trip) and a longer one to AZ (1500 miles), those two on a KTM Duke 690 with a stock seat, and another trip...

Mozambique or failure to stop drill

Even in combat they second guess you. There was a little incident during the first Gulf War where some gun camera shots from some Apaches showed some rounds impacting amongst some Iraqi troops. The vids made it to the press and there was a huge hullabaloo about war crimes. I (amongst others)...

(UPDATED) Washington State Drops AR, KS, MS and MO.

I'm starting on a 3000+ mile motorcycle trip on Tuesday and my route is about 200 miles longer in order to avoid IL and MN, which don't recognize my CO CCW. Oh, well, I don't suspect they care and a longer ride is better than a shorter one!

    Powder recommendations for .45-70

My Marlin 1895 really likes H4895. I do use the Speer 400 gr JSP. Very accurate in the Marlin at about 1780 fps. It's a fine Elk load out to about 150 yards - my self imposed max with the gun.

Thinking of shoulder carrying a 686 on the motorcycle

I like the Tanker holster from El Paso. I used one for years to carry a 1911 in, of all things, a tank. Crawling in and out of tanks and working on the beasts the official USArmy version worked great and I find the ElPaso version with my little Kahr P9 is very unobtrusive. If you open your...

    454...reload or not?

I have found a nice little handload that is "only" 10% more powerful than my hottest .44 Mag load. I'm pretty confident that it will do for anything I'm likely to find in Colorado! And my SRH loves it too.

    .32 S&W (short)

I have an old Iver Johnson top break in .32 Short. It was my great uncle's gun. Back in 1967, when I got it, it came with a box of factory ammo. I fired it a few times, but the most memorable was when I was hiking on the farm one day and saw a ground hog. Shot at it. I swear I could see the...

    RELOADING DRILLS - REVOLVERS

I have been doing it the other way so long I am not sure this old dog could learn that new trick. Feels both awkward and slow to reload a revolver with my left hand. As long as the mind says "auto" the left hand goes to the mag carrier, otherwise I dump the shells, transfer the gun, insert...

    KINDA WONDERING ABOUT THIS ONE

Yeah, like "Why shouldn't a permit be required to exercise the 1A? 4A? 5A?

    RELOADING DRILLS - REVOLVERS

I do carry speedloaders if I carry any extra ammo, and I usually do. I find the big one for the Taurus 617 is always noticeable, but noticeable as what? And it hides the gun just behind it. If I'm carrying the 617 I figure one speedloader will do since that gives me 14 rounds. With the SP101...

    Squib load---millisecond from disaster!

I've had two squib loads. The first was about 40 years with a .45 Colt, but that one didn't completely leave the cylinder so a follow up wasn't possible. The other was a .32-20 but it felt light and I wasn't shooting it fast. My real experience with squib loads has been as an IDPA safety...

    Ruger SP101 versus S&W M60

I don't have a 60 but I do have a 649 in .38 Special. It has a trigger job and the trigger is really superb. That being said I'd much rather shoot the SP101 (2 1/4" barrel), or even my LCR, in .357 than the 649 in .38 Spl. I also have a Taurus 617 which I carry a lot - 7 rounds of .357 has...

    IDPA

I've been shooting IDPA for about 16 years now. Was the president of our local club (which meant match director as well) for about 5 years, and been a safety officer for about 13 years. I shoot, Front Range IDPA at Clear Creek County Sportsmen's Club at the Dumont exit, above Idaho Springs and...

    Texas Wagon Train Commemorative

I bought (after about an hour on the internet) 200 rounds of Hornady .44-40 and a hundred rounds of brand new Remington brass. Think I'll be good for a while. I seriously doubt I'll want to sell it: the next transfer will be when I die, as with the rest of my guns. But I do think I'll enjoy...
