Difference in blueing techniques; now and yesterday; thank you.

The old style is called Carbona Bluing. "Nitre" bluing is a very different process that gives you colors from straw to bright blue; often refered to as fire blue. The Victory Models were Parkerized, not blued. Current process is hot bluing, which is done in tanks.

    A very disappointed camper.

617’s in general don’t shoot on par with the old school model 17’s and no where near as good as a 41. Regardless, the 617 is far from an inaccurate revolver. I have what I consider to be a rather average 617 that will average about 2.25” with just about any cheap load I put in there (at 25...

    Too beautiful to shoot?

I can think of few things in this world more worthless than a gun you can't shoot.

    Just wondering about Elmer

I think the idea of extending the cartridge and pushing it farther than what Elmer was working on came from John Lachuck, who was doing much the same thing Elmer was, only hotter. And of course, Elmer was all for it.

WOW!$$$$$$ What are 27's going for?

3.5" is cool, no two ways about it. But mine is a 4" and I think it's almost as cool.

    125 gr 357 mag loads fired in a M19 ?

Oh, I might add that never once did I "fix" a broken forcing cone. Back when I was a gunsmith by vocation, S&W wouldn't sell their "magnum" barrels; they had to be replaced by the factory only. I might also add that I can count on one hand the number of 66's I've seen with a cracked forcing...

    125 gr 357 mag loads fired in a M19 ?

First, let me begin by saying the Combat Magnum is oneof my absolute favorite handguns. My very fist handgun was a 6" model 19-5 with 6" barrel. After just under 1k rounds, I split the forcing cone shooting 145 grain Winchester Silvertip. This was after shooting my own 158 grain .38 spl SWC...

    "JACK LLOYD" Model 58?

Now I'll admit to not being an expert on the 58 (although I'm a fan): 1 - Really looks like a square butt to round butt conversion to me 2 - Never heard of Jack Lloyd 3 - No mention of a round butt or Jack Lloyd in either Jinks book or the Standard Catalogue. I'd love to hear the back story on...

    .357/44 Bobcat

For those of you not familiar...The .357/44 Bobcat is sort of like a Bain & Davis; only different. Start with a .44 magnum case. Now neck it down to .357. Add a polymer collar over the bottle neck portion of the case so it can fit in an unaltered .44 cylinder. Now drop said .44 cylinder into...

    IWB holsters

The Milt Sparks VM II is ideal for what you want, just order it with the clips. That way you can carry tucked until you get tired of carrying tucked, and then go back to regular IWB carry. I rarely carry tucked anymore.

    Help replacing my K-38 with a 357

Let's see, you already have a .357 in a model 28 and I think few would argue that you're likely to find a "better" .357 than the one you have. And you have a K38 which is king of the accuracy department. I really don't see why you would want to change a thing? Use that K38 as a "shooter...

    New model 27

Look at the bright side, at least the back of the frame still has the classic contour instead of the semi-flat contour. And if you grind the nub off the lock, then you don't even have a hole in your revolver. No, it's not the classic 27, but it's still a good revolver. Good looking and 8 shots.

    27 Rear Sight

Chad - Absolutely love the pinned ramp. Mine protrudes a good 1/8", maybe a touch farther than yours. I just don't get it. On S&W's flagship revolver, why would they allow the leaf to extend so far forward and look so ackward? I'm not planning on trimming it anytime soon, but I may. I just...
