Thanks for the inputs!
The 29-10weighs in at6.7 ounces more than my 586-8.
Guess l will need to find out the hard way if I will be able to tolerate 44 magnum. I can always stay with 44 spl.

Just purchased a new 29-10 from a NJ gun shop. Store owner said it had been on order for3.5 years. Quality appears to be pretty good except for some burrs on the forcing cone and a hefty double action trigger. Looking forward to a range trip once my NJ purchase permit is approved.
Who else has...
Altamont rosewood round to square for my 617-6 4". Provides the same grip (for me) as my 586-8 4" with factory wood (both are laminate). The rosewoods also look awesome. Sorry - no pics.

Bought my 617-6 4" early last year. excellent fit/finish and no issues thus far. Decent double action trigger and awesome single action. Added Altamont round to square butt rosewood grips. Very close in weight and balance to my 586-8 4" making for cost effective target practice. As a side note...
Have a 617-6 stainless and a 586-8 blued. Love both but the 586-8 is my favorite. Keep a light coat of Johnsons paste wax on it which makes it really stand out.
Thanks for all of your responses! According to their MSDS, no. 9 contains <1% each of ammonium hydroxide and diammoniun peroxodisulfate. Not a CE but seems to me to be a rather insignificant quantity of "ammonia". Any other thoughts on this? As for the smell - I use with adequate ventilation...
Occasionally I come across posts on this forum that advise against using Hoppes 9 on newer blued Smiths. I have been using it on my 586-8 for the past 3.5 years and have not noticed any issues thus far. Used mostly in the bore, forcing cone area, and cylinder face with a bronze brush. Would like...
Shootong .357
Turning 77 at the end of this month. Don't have any J frames but can imagine the discomfort of firing .357 that such a light weight gun delivers. My 586-8 L frame is not especially pleasant so I fire mostly .38 SPL. Recently acquired a Taurus 692 with 6.5" ported barrel and full...
I have a 22C and a 9C2.0. Does anyone have any idea why the rear sight on the 9C is adjustable for windage only while the 22C is adjustable for both windage and elevation? Also, the 9C adjustment requires impacting with a soft mallet to move it - not conducive to fine adjustment.
Both...
Don't you just love our NJ one gun every 30 days restriction?
It does, however, sound as if you will be allowed to take possession of both guns at the same time. Are there exceptions to the 30 day interval?
They are really nice revolvers.
Range visit with PPU .357 Magnum
Fired 50 rounds of 158 grain JHP today along with some Fiocchi 158 grain FMJ and Blazer .38+P. Went bang every trigger pull. Some through my 586-8 but most in my Taurus 962 with 6.5" ported barrel (more comfortable to shoot with high recoil ammo).Did not notice...
Ordered 500 rounds of 158 grain SJHP for cost effective range visits with my 586-8 revolver. Price (including tax) comes to .39 per round. Anyone have experience with this ammo? Advertise 1600 FPS which is pretty hot. Thanks in advance for your inputs.

I substituted Altamont rosewood round to square butt conversion grips on my 617-6. This gives me the same feel as my 586-8 (square butt). Not only that, they look great.
Welcome from the other Jersey (the one that has "New" in front of it). When asked where we are from in the states we would generally respond with just "Jersey". My granddaughter's softball team, in fact, is named Jersey Impact and we have the Jersey Devils hockey team.
I have a new version 586...
617-6 CYLINDER FOULING
Have about 300 rounds of Federal target RNL through my 617-6. Extraction does become more difficult after each cylinder but nothing that I can't deal with. Have fired some vintage Remington 22S that are no problem. Each range trip I do 100 rounds of the Federal. Last...
