First a little back story; Several months ago I bought a Model 25-10 from one of the sale sites. It came to me in a presentation case that did not match the gun. With a little research, I determined the presentation case was for a 1988 Iditarod Commemorative.

These guns were 629-1's with 6" barrels and had special roll marking on the side plate and barrel. The case and the gun are inscribed "1 of 1000". These are well documented in the SCSW IV. I'm assuming that these guns were part of a promotion where the customer buys a CD and is given the gun in lieu of interest. The bank went under or was acquired by a bigger fish before Smith fulfilled the contract (and most likely before the bank paid for all 1000), so there were only 545 produced.

I had the presentation case so I figured some day I'd stumble across one of these guns with no case. To that end, I usually search under "Iditarod" whenever I'm perusing for Smiths. During one of these searches up popped a pair of consecutively serial numbered Iditarod Commemoratives, complete with everything (alright, one was missing the vapor paper) including the tool kits and SAT's. You can guess the rest.

Just sent the funds off this morning. This being NJ, I probably won't be able to take possession of them until around the end of the month or early Nov. In the meantime I can entertain myself with these pictures...

so does that mean you still have an empty box in search of a 3rd gun? [emoji4]

Yes I do. Do you have a gun for sale?

When I found the 25-10 I recognized that the case did not go with the gun and thought the vendor was trying to pull a fast one. E-mailed him and found out that he has a customer that likes to embellish guns by pairing them with presentation cases and dressing them up. I have since seen many such pairings by this vendor. The odd Iditarod case out is further enhanced with a large photograph, in the lid, of a dog sled and team next to an ice breaker and a piece of scrimshaw. These appear to be glued in place, so I have no idea how much damage it would do to remove them. Actually they would go nicely with the Iditarod commemorative.

Bob, hope you will find one. But looks like you are finding anything you want these days. Those 629s are gorgeous w the grips...one for Harry, one for Mom.

Don't you just love our NJ one gun every 30 days restriction?

It does, however, sound as if you will be allowed to take possession of both guns at the same time. Are there exceptions to the 30 day interval?

They are really nice revolvers.

You can apply for a multiple handgun purchase exemption, which I did this morning. They can be used anytime, regardless where you are in the 30 day cycle. I.e. Pick up a gun on Monday with a permit and within the OGAM cycle. I can then, with an exemption, pick up multiple guns (must be listed on the exemption forms) on, say, Thursday of the same week. However, the new 30 day clock starts ticking from the day you used the exemption.

I have used the exemption twice before - once for two guns and the last time for four. There are different categories for the exemption - collector is one, competitor is another. They aren't too fussy about what constitutes those categories.

Forms can be found on line. One for you and one for the selling FFL.
