After installing Wolff springs in my S&W J frame models 442 and 342 and lightly polishing all critical surfaces with my set of ultra- fine Norton Hard Arkansas gunsmithing stones, I was able to achieve really smooth trigger/reset action while reducing the factory trigger pull from over 12 lbs...

I use a 1/2" x 1/2" x 3" Norton ultra-fine Hard Arkansas stone. These stones are designed for polishing. Be sure to use some good quality oil on the stone. You should be able to find them on eBay or do a google search. Good luck!

My 317 is also sensitive to lockup as you described. I found that using Winchester 36 grain JHP resolved the problem. I can shoot cylinder after cylinder and not experience the problem any longer.
