Hello all,

Newbie looking for some guidance please.

I have a S&W J frame 442 that I am doing a trigger job on, removing all the rough spots by gently passing a hard arkansas stone over the areas. I've taken the revolver completely apart except for the cylinder stop.

Can anyone provide some guidance with respect to the easiest way to remove the stop and spring and after polising the part, getting it back into position without loosing the spring or fouling things up? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Doc

All I do is take a small screwdriver and push stop through frame and catch it on underside with my finger nail and hold it so it doesn't snap back into slot of frame. Take a srewdriver and wedge it uder the stop where it fits on boss and carefully pry it up. As soon as it has gone far enough where it can't slip back through frame I just put my thumb over where the stop spring is and keep on prying it off boss. If you're worried about it popping off do this all inside a gallon sized plastic bag so if it does pop off it will be contained. The spring is in the stop by a small counterbore. When placing it back the spring is just bent enough to fit in the detent while you place the stop on boss. Then push stop and spring down to where they are seated. Sounds more complicated when trying to put it in words than it really is.
