    OAL too long?

Another vote for using the crimp groove. Just try one to be sure it fits in your gun with no binding, and a little clearance for recoil. If not, try a different bullet, but 1.61 should be okay in most guns. My 686 can deal with that length, but my Python is a bit shorter. Depends on the...

    Anybody reload "Blazer Brass" cases?

I reload Blazer (or any other kind) of brass. Works fine

    Substitute for HP38

I second Bullseye at the top of the list. I've used PB and with my Dillon 550 it meters very accurately in my experience.

Nicks on the rims of 45 ACP shells not feeding into the shell holder

My Smith 645 doesn't leave many nicks on my shells, but my Springfield TRP leaves a flat "line" across a section of the shell that sometimes leaves a nick at one end. I generally take a file if they drag into the shell plate, but I'm using a Dillon 550b so there's usually enough clearance. I'd...

Problems with my 645 - Slide staying open after most shots =PROBLEM SOLVED!

I hear you, it's just frustrating to wait as long as I did and have it come back with the extractor fixed and the slide stop messed up! Your points on the ejector fitting and tension gauge is exactly why I sent it to them and didn't try messing with it myself. The gun is a great shooter, and...

Problems with my 645 - Slide staying open after most shots =PROBLEM SOLVED!

Thanks! I still have 3 original metal follower mags, and I have 1 "orange" plastic follower mags. I see what you mean on the edge potential to wear the plastic follower. I'll have to get some new mags (if and when I can find any!). Looking at it now, it seems the slide stop is slightly...

Problems with my 645 - Slide staying open after most shots =PROBLEM SOLVED!

You guys are awesome, thanks for all the info. This morning, I looked at the assembly very carefully, and intuitively looked at the relation between the slide stop and the frame. It's parallel, and, the gap is very even for the entire length of the slide stop. Reading this now, I'll bet it's...

Any colt Python owner - help needed?

Same here, if I move it slowly there's a little click. Something moving in there. Mine was in for trigger and action work and has run flawlessly for 3 decades. I wouldn't worry about is another minute.

Any colt Python owner - help needed?

Same here, mine has a rattle when you shake it, sort of sounds like a bb rattling. Mine shoots perfectly and had been "breathed on" by Colt back in the early 70's. Mine is a 4" and was born in 1964.

Problems with my 645 - Slide staying open after most shots =PROBLEM SOLVED!

Thanks all. It does seem the slide stop is just rubbing the bullet enough to kick it up. The size/radius of the bullet profile might explain why I can go through 2 or 3 rounds and have no problem, then all of the sudden it stays open. I measured the WWB ammo when I got home, it's consistently...

Problems with my 645 - Slide staying open after most shots =PROBLEM SOLVED!

Ok, I went to the range, and at least I now know why the slide is staying back with many rounds, and why it was happening with my factory 230gr round nose, and not my 200gr SWC reloads: The second bullet (next in line in the mag), is hitting the slide stop actuator as if the mag was empty...

2400 load for Mod 19 Questions

I also load 158gr LSWC's over 13.5-13.8 grains of 2400 and use standard CCI500 primers with great accuracy and the 'go bang" feel of the magnum we all love!

    re-loads- accuracy question

I've found softer loads are better for accuracy in both my 686 with .357 loads, and my .45acp reloads. I haven't loaded any with the PB yet, I've used 2400 in all of my .357 loads with very good success. My go to load right now is a 158gr lead SWC (.358diam Missouri bullets)) over 13.7grains...

Problems with my 645 - Slide staying open after most shots =PROBLEM SOLVED!

Thanks. For my assurance, the slide stop plunger is the spring loaded nipple on the end of the slide stop? I think it is, and it is indeed present and under some pressure. And is the side plate dose seem to have a a very little angle to it, and the slide stop plunger is making contact. I...

Problems with my 645 - Slide staying open after most shots =PROBLEM SOLVED!

I just broke it down, thanks, I understand how the guide rod puts pressure on the slide stop now. It is putting pressure on it, albeit, it doesn't seem to be a lot, but I guess it shouldn't. The guide rod uses a small nipple that protrudes from the rod through the frame to apply pressure on...
