This is how mine came that I purchased this summer. That other slot, to my knowledge is for another magazine. I believe it is slightly thinner, just because it has not been stretched by having a magazine held in it.

I have read posts regarding the difference between the original 15T (with Troy handguards, etc) and the newer, less expensive version. I have not however seen any real feedback on the newer, "less expensive" M&P 15T. Buds Gun Shop has it listed at $968 which is almost $400 less than the troy...

I got a set of azoom snap caps for under 20 bucks. I would suggest getting some to use during dry fire practice.

Month old thread but when I got my m&p9 a few weeks ago I was recommended to try eezox as cleaner and dry lube. 160 rounds so far with no issues. Just picked up a small bottle of Hoppes Elite though after reading high reviews. Will still clean with eezox then use hopes elite to lubricate.
