Thank God I have only had to send my 617 back to S&W for warranty work. It is now an amazing shooter and always goes with me to the range. I credit my 617 for teaching me how to shoot double action. I pretty much only shoot double action these days.
Yes. I prefer the classic appearance of the standard Smith & Wesson revolvers like the models 19, 66, 27, 686 and others. I prefer my 617 over the Mountain Gun version, especially for that kind of money. I know it won't shoot any better than my 617.
I have a 617-6 and have experienced the same thing. Some ammo is hotter than others, and some have thinner brass which expands more. Federal is not really hot and makes good, and easy to eject, plinking ammo.
Double action is really all I shoot these days. My 10 shot 22LR Model 617 has taught me to shoot double action. I just took it to the range today and did not shoot single action once. This has carried over to my 357 Magnums. I think I actually shoot better double action now.
My 4 inch 617-6 went back to S&W for the same reason. Two of the ten charging holes/chambers were out of time. Smith & Wesson replaced the extractor due to two of the ratchets causing carry up problems. They also recut the forcing cone. Shoots like a dream now and goes with me to the range every...
Don't hold your breath for getting a 19-9 for under $500. S&W just raised the price for the no-lock 19-10 which is selling for over a thousand dollars. I love my 19-9 that I purchased in December for $939. Fantastic revolver.
A 38spl does not have much more recoil than a 22LR, at least to me. I do not know the OP's physical condition or how much effect recoil has on his accuracy. But sometimes I believe my 10 shot Model 617 revolver is the deadliest handgun I own. It may only be a 22LR, but this is something I could...
