I own two 625-8s, 4" and 5 1/4", and the 45 Colt is a 625-13. All shoot well, but ammo for the 45 auto is cheaper and easier to get. If you reload, neither caliber is expensive. I have to say that all are terrific revolvers.
I carry mine frequently with Winchester Ranger in a Sparks Summer Special or VMII holster. Also carry an extra mag of 13 rounds. Installed Trijion night sights on it. Good to go.
I have a 1991 SW 36. I frequently carry it in the summer months over the Glock using Gold Dot 135 grain HPs. I usually use 130 grain ball or 158 grain lead for practice. The main thing is to become proficient with hitting close-in targets (1-5 yards).
I carry a 36 in an older Bianchi IWB holster that protects clothing from catching on the spur when drawn. The 36's a bit too heavy for pants pocket carry, although I do have a pocket holster for it. I've never had a snag drawing it. I've tried the 442 & 642 but the recoil is a bit more than I...
There are other on the board, specifically dealing with Nightguards, who have the same problem of misfires with new revolvers. They've had to send theirs back to SW for replacement firing pins. Sounds like they shorted the lenght when manufactured.
I have a 686 power port with a red dot scope as my range/hunting gun. But, I now have a 617 set up the same way as my 686. The recoil is less but, I do get to shoot more bullets down range.
