DARN!! My first ever K frame failure...

This is the first real evidence that I can remember seeing on the forum regarding a component failure. Wow, no lock, no MIM and no internal firing pin. Parts can and do break. Thank you for your courage for sharing.

    question for you 610ers

The semi-auto cartridges are "rimless" thus there is no rim for the extractor to push against to remove the cartridges from the chamber. The moonclip, or RIMZ like I use headspace the cartridge, grip the extractor groove and remove the cartridges when it is time to extract. An additional...

    586

Basically, the 586 is a blued 686. Same size, options and barrel lengths. Great gun and great balance. I just picked up a 586-3 4". Hammer mounted firing pin and diamond walnut stocks with S&W inlays. Very "business-like".

Moon clips hard to load into cylinder question

It has been my experience that Winchester .38Spcl and 357Mag brass are the most difficult to fit into clips. Federal, Remington and Starline are the easiest to fit into 8-shot clips. S&W clips may be made by Ranch Products and could be stamped vs. Wish that RIMZ made 8-shot clips.

    New Charter Arms rimless revolvers

This has been tried before with miserable results. Think of it, a highly machined and highly precision mechanism, that has to work the first time, every time, with heat, dirt, debris coupled with oil or grease. These guns may be a fad for now, but will probably die out quickly. They just...

    Caliber Conversions Questions

If you are going to the trouble of making a conversion, then I would suggest find a resource for the dimensions of the cartridges and the power factors of each (might be important). A handloading guide should have all the dimensions you need to consider (would really be handy when checking...

    Reduced supply of new 686s?

In spite of the MIM and IL frenzy, the demand for these guns continues to rise along with the prices. I do not think either will fall in the near future.

Hammer firing pin vs. frame mounted firing pin

Frame mounted firing pins can be set up to perform with lighter trigger pulls and lighter ignition strokes for competition guns. Beware the short pin!

    S&W 325 Thunder Ranch Observations

HPkid, I am curious to know which RIMZ clip did you use in your 325? Both the RIMZ 625 and the RIMZ 25 fit the gun. My preference has been the RIMZ 625 for the range and the RIMZ 25 for comp and carry.

    accuracy of 686 vs 325

Hate to say it, but there are times that the anticipation of the event is enough to cause a slight change in the motion of the trigger, grip, flinch etc.... If the .45 ammo you shoot is highly consistent and you change from 38spcl to 357 mag ammo you are going to experience some change in the...

    Moon clips

I use the RIMZ clips exclusively in my 1917, 25-2, 625-8, 610-3 and my 646. No hassle with tools, no hassle with bent clips, no hassle with rusted clips and no hassle with forgetting tools and spoiling my range time. Keeps it simple!

    .45 Colt Cylinder in 25-2 ??

PackN, The space between the recoil shield and the cylinder is different on .45 ACP revolvers and 45 Long Colt Revolvers. The distance to the ratchet and the throw of the hand may also be different. I believe it is easier to modify a long colt cylinder (relieved) to shoot a .45ACP than it is...

Used brass casing included with new revolver

Every new handgun I have purchased in the last ten years came with a spent case. Since I purchase mostly revolvers, I am assured that on at least one occasion, a bullet properly fired from at least one of the chambers in my new firearm. To me it is no more than that. I believe that this...

    Side Armour Holster

I had one for my 625-8, used in competition for a season. When I tried my 25-2 in it, the drag from the holster left left scratches on the cylinder. Don't use it anymore for blued guns.

Model 18-4 or Colt Woodsman - which would you buy?

No second thought on my part, the Woodsman. I have a second series Woodsman that was my Dad's gun and would definitely get a second one if I had the chance.
