The SD9VE has over 10k rounds through it. It has also been dunked in a 5 gallon bucket of water to see if it would hydrolock, slung against a few trees and tossed on concrete a number of times. The only failure (believe it or not) was when it was brand new the striker broke. Smith mailed me a...
If you call Smith and talk to a human they'll send you any non-FFL part you need for the gun. It is NOT nor will it ever have the aftermarket trinkets available for it that Glock's do. It wasn't designed & marketed for that purpose. It was totally created for a whole lot of folks who did not...
This idea that a SDVe is only a good "first gun" is nuts. I purchased the 9&40 variants for the express purpose to beat the **** out of them. After doing so to the 9mm I can say I trust it just as much as my other higher priced striker guns. Smith got the SDVE guns right. Don't believe me? Buy...
The attraction of the SD is its price. Spending as little on one as you can is wise if you think you may sell it at some point. I had mine Cerakoted as well as the spring kit and fiber optic sights. Now selling it would be a very loosing proposition for me. None of that stuff help with resale at...
The SD is designed to be an inexpensive pistol to defend yourself with. A trigger isn't a big deal when that's what you need. However, trigger pull becomes increasingly more important with a gun that you are trying to shoot quickly and accurately. When I purchased the SD I didn't buy it with the...
That doesn't protect them from liability issues. Toyota paid out billions in fines so even foreign owned companies that have USA subsidiaries are subject to the same laws.
Really it just boils down to what a companies legal council tells them to do.
I'm no Glock fanboy but I think it's safe to say that Glock has had no "liability issues" in regards to making parts readily available. If they were worried about liability issues they wouldn't be in the gun business to begin with.
Fluctuations in QC especially related to the MIM process is what's causing these issues. Smith admitted they're having issues with them. Some are breaking with less than 500 rounds on them. Mine had an estimated 1500 rounds on it with relatively little dry firing on the gun. It's not an issue...
Do you consider a SD pistol "worth" buying such striker were it offered and if so what would you pay for one? S&W rep told it's not an uncommon problem with these guns even though there have been slight variations of the design. Same question for M&P pistols.
