good to be part of a S&W gun forum-
i work for a pd and process guns for evidence-
hope to use your combined expertise-

right now i am trying to properly ID a gun that was stolen in 1975--yes 1975--long story but it was entered wrong into the stolen database and i am trying to correct that [guns are identified by many cryteria and the serial number alone can yield all kinds of weapons ] -it may be the reason it has never been recovered--and my main goal is to get it in the system correctly and possibly find it and get it back to the owner[or their kin]--it is possibly a 22 semi-auto.

the serial number is-- A197371---can anyone determine its classification based on the serial number?--IE: revolver/semi/caliber etc.

22 Semi-auto....my first guess is Model#41. The A prefix would date it to a 1972 year of manufacture. With the A prefix and 6 digits I would put money on it that it was a model #41.

Despite the fact that I was born in 1980, I did have a model 41 stolen from me back in 1975--with that exact serial number no less, I will send you my mailing address :D

Contact me offline. I work the pawn shop detail for my agency and may be able to help some.
