Has anyone ever had any experience with the Walther P99 in 9mm? I have always like the looks of them but was wondering about the trigger pull and grip set up on them.
The only shortcoming is finding less expensive 15 round magazines for the full size gun. 10 round magazines, both for the compact and full-size are relatively easy to find and not too expensive; 15 rounders run in the $50-60 range, if you can find them. Supposedly, the new Magnum Research magazines will fit; they are in the $30 range each.
S. Hammer - 17 + 1 ? I'm not aware that any P99 had a 17 + 1 capacity. Tops was 15 + 1.
The German magazines were 16 rounds; they're hard to find and expensive. The magazines for the US market P99s were 10 rounds. S&W offered the 15 round magazines after they started the SW99, which was a P99 frame, manufactured in Germany, with a S&W SW99 slide, manufactured in Massachuetts.
Hum...not sure this is totally correct...my P99 is a German made gun (not S&W) purchased in the US and it came with (2) Mec-Gar brand 15 rd. magazines. Again NEVER seen or heard of any 16 or 17 rounders.
Curious to know more about these "German" magazines as mine is a German gun and was purchased WAY before the existance of the SW99.
Have fun and be safe.

The P99 is just about the only semiauto that can get me away from my BHP. I have 2 in 9mm one is the c model, both are the AS trigger. My son is trying to swap me (for one of my Hi Powers of course) for a QA full size 9mm. I admit I like the ability to have the chamber loaded and then release the firing pin, giving one a handgun that requires only about a 1/8" slide movement to go into action. I am just slightly paranoid about gun grabs, the QA with the firing pin uncocked would fustrate the most dedicated gun grabber out there for quite a while-and I do not need that long to present my 940 which is almost always my BUG (sometimes a 442) and deal with the situation.
Some folks think that I am too gun grab aware, well just about half of all LEO in 2010 that were shot, were shot with their own weapon, another LEOs weapon, or by another LEO-hopefully accidently.
I have done some training with the QA and found that a slight downward push against the holster will "cock" the weapon, with virtually no loss of time in presentation, well about .155 of a second to be precise. I'll see.......
