Hey guys, I was looking for your input on this setup I'm thinking about running on my M&P 15OR.

Mount
Warne RAMP mount.

Scope (truly haven't made my mind up yet)
Nikon Buckmaster (I keep reading that for the money you can't go wrong with a Nikon)
Amazon.com: Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14x40 Riflescope: Sports & Outdoors

Primary Arms (If I go budget friendly) 4-16x44 Illuminated
https://www.primaryarms.com/Primary_Arms_416X44_Illuminated_Mil_Dot_Scop_p/pa 4-16x.htm

Also had my eye on a Burris Timberline model

Micro Dot / Reflex for the 45 rail on the RAMP. (Need help here)

Primary Arms Micro Dot w/ riser QD mount
https://www.primaryarms.com/Primary_Arms_Micro_Dot_With_Removable_Base_p/md06lhmbundle.htm

Primary Arms Green Reflex
Primary Arms Micro Tactical Green Dot Reflex Sight - PAMR - Primary Arms

Fastfire II *Hate to drop the cash on this when the FF3 is coming out soon.
FastFire II Reflex Red Dot Sight 4 MOA Picatinny Mount Matte

If you have other suggestions for any of the categories, let me know. I'm new to the reflex sight type thing... anyway.... any help is greatly appreciated.

Let me ask why the 4-16x scope? What will you be using this for? Hunting? Target shooting? Do you really need 16x magnification? I ask because alot can be accomplished by a 1-4x scope without the need for a red dot on a offset mount.

I am shooting prarie dogs at 150 to 300 yards and the 16 is pretty handy cause a minute of Pdog is pretty small once you get out to 200 yards, I tried a 3-9x50 and it wasnt enough, yeah I could get real close but with the 4-16x40 I could shoot them when they were halfway in the hole!! and the 1-8 5r barrel on the sport is accurate enough for a 4-16. :D

I used a 4 power on my 22 but they have gotten wiser so I wanted a 223 for more range and now I have it and it works

Yep, look at the Nikon M223 1-4X20 with an appropriate mount.

Ahhh....getting old is a bummer, eh??
15 years ago, I was of the thought that a 3x9 was all I would ever need.
I am leaning toward a 30x90 now if I can find one!!!!:D I find that for a target as small as rockchucks, a 12 power would be good to 250 yards. For an elk??? a 12 power would cover me to 600 yards easy. It's all relative to the target you are shooting.

I'd get the Nikon. BTW, Nikon is coming out with a M-223 4-16x42SF in June. If you can wait, I'd get that one.

Ok for those little guys I can see the need for a higher power scope. I had a 4-16 on my 17hmr for that very reason! Love shooting prarie dogs.

I run a 6x12x50 on my 308 for long range zombie encounters.
I believe in more scope the better, I have a 4x16x44 I'm going to put on my sport for some varments.

I have a 4-16 on my 17hmr also...I wanted a rifle with a quicker followup shot and just a little more power downrange. I have everything that I was after and more with my sport!! :D

Reason.

The reason I need a higher magnification scope is because I have an eye disease by the name of retinitis pigmentosa that limits my vision.

The closer I can get to the target, the better off I am.

Thanks for all of your input guys.

P.S. The current setup I'm looking at is

Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14x40 w/ BDC
Warne RAMP
Primary Arms MicroDot

This setup will run me around $485-500.

If you can dream up of another scenario / build in the price range that would be more effecetive, I'm all ears.

Again, thanks for your input.

The main reason I have a higher power scope is the fact as I get older my far away vision has gotten worse, so I get scopes that are parallax free. It enables me in our open country to take longer shots accurately!
