JESSE STONE: Benefit of the Doubt

In the Jesse Stone movie Thin Ice when Jesse got shot and was recuperating he carried a nice little Smith J-frame .38 that was blued and had ivory grips. It was the only .38 I have seen him carry, that .45 he had last night looked something like a Kimber but I could not be sure. I loved how when he did a condition check how he put the gun in his coat pocket instead of back in a holster. I really liked the Browning BLR set up, plus the bad guy was Robert Carradine who had been with Selleck in Monte Walsh. It seems he has a core group of people and works with them in the movies like William Devane who was also in Monte Walsh.

I just checked the imfdb website and they state that in the last Jesse Stone movie he carried a Smith 1911PD Gunsite Edition, and in all the earlier movies the 1911's were all Smith & Wessons. So maybe the one last night was too.

I've mostly liked the Jesse Stone series, and I like almost anything that Tom Selleck does. But I gotta say - this one was a yawner! My wife had the bad guy picked out in the first five minutes.
 
I like tom selleck in everything. In the jesse stone series they have that dreary bad music and gloomy wet weather and location that makes you feel like your in a dream or fighting to keep concious from a knockout. While he is his own style actor, both he and john wayne were my two standout actors that I considered a mans man.
I had a GF that ran a mens big and tall store in lancaster california. Tom and his brother bob owned the building. They liked her as she found a few other buisness people to rent other stores they owned in that complex. I have a picture of tom, bob, martine and her boss and wife all standing together in her store. One of my GF`s since, I see, has cut her out of it! His brother bob is taller than him!
 
Selleck has had a big hand in writing the scripts for the last two Jesse Stone movies since Parker died.

I think his vision of Jesse is a lot darker than Parker's, and there's no way, since he 'is' the character, that his personal take on 'Jesse Stone' would not creep into and change the story line.

When he's playing a character that someone else is writing he would have to be limited to a certain extent by the author's interpretation. Writing for his own character he's no doubt free to explore the things about the man that perhaps he felt weren't present previously.

I've seen all eight films. I was afraid with the seventh one that Hasty and Geno's characters were going to become semi-cartoonish and roguishly likeable. This latest installment seems to put the brakes on that. I think Jesse likes Hasty, but he'd shoot him in a heartbeat. Wouldn't take that long for him to plug Geno . . .
 
Just an aside on the actors:

Stephen McHattie, who plays the state police detective, had an early prominent role in "A History of Violence." He was the older killer who goes to the diner and starts the ruckus, ending up with his jaw blown away.

I'm a huge Selleck fan but that script last night was weak. Couldn't do much with it. Not the same without Parker's hand in itJM .02.
 
I was really disappointed in the last show. Police procedures went out the window. I never did hear how they identified the two bodies. Dental records were never mentioned. Never figured out how the bomb was set off. Never understood why someone needed to frame the cops, or burn up a $100,000 in the process. Oh, well, most folks that write this stuff don't know squat about the real deal, just look at the forensic shows. Forensic scientists out making arrests and interrogating suspects..Yeah, right. Kicking down doors are good ones, too.
 
I too watched the show last night. I really liked the Browning BLR with the after market sights and rail. I have 2, a 358 and a 450 Marlin. I even commented to the wife that that was the first BLR I had seen on TV. The brass on the ship's deck sure looked like 308's to me as I loaded 600 of them that morning and hand trimmed 100 more and primed them during the commercials. He was carring a commander length 1911 with fore and aft cocking serrations with smooth grips. It could have been a S&W, Kimber, Baer Custom, I could not tell. I'm a big fan of TS and I though Robert Carridine's charactor was well played. I failed to catch the reason the 2 officers were killed as I was counting the shots fired. Bob!!!
 
The two cops were getting close to the real money man and he suspected it. Hence when the car was serviced, the bomb was placed and the money was put in the trunk to make it look like the cops were dirty and part of any drug trade.

As for the writers, they were Selleck and his longtime producer partner Brandman.:)
 
Why was the guy with the BLR after the other thug and following the chief?

I never figured out who he was. They must have said when I went to the kitchen.
 
When you think about it, the BLR is a excellent .308 rifle for that. As jesse said, with that clip you can have it in action quick, plus they are fast handeling and on top of that they dont look like a evil black auto when or if you are stopped. I never owned one myself but have shot a buddys. Fine rifle. I have a number of good center fire rifles, maybe 15.
Lately I wrote of a crazy fugitive "Mountain man" that has been breaking in cabins here in the high country, shooting the cabins up etc for the last seven years or so. He has left taunting terrorist notes, threating to bury our sheriff etc. Anyway I ride the trails with our quad in the area he has been operateing in a lot. Since this came to light I have decided to carry more than just a revolver. I looked at what I have and decided to start carrying my winchester model 88 lever in .308 for the same reasons as that BLR was selected. The 88 has the clip magazine also in .308 lever and can be put into action fast.
I also had a hard time trying to figure out the plot details but I dont hear our TV too good in the movies. Where can I get a flashing bow tie like that?
 
With the re-appearance of Luther "Suitcase" Simpson at the end there will be another movie.
 
I was disappointed in the Sunday eve Jesse Stone movie. I like anything Selleck is in but would prefer the westerns. Sundays show was downright slow and depressing and way to many cliches between the people. Almost got predictable and boring. As a matter of fact it did. Kind of a long 2 hours. Give me a good western show any day and I am happy. I know the people that make the movies don't like to risk their money on westerns but what the heck, do it anyway.
