Yeah, I know, this has been talked about a lot. Still, I'm a gun enthusiast and am curious.

I owned two Gocks a while ago; a 22 and a 26. Initially I was impressed by their simplicity. They were decent enough guns for me, but I couldn't shoot them very well. Then I was introduced to the 1911 and found I shot that much better. I haven't looked back.

I picked up an M&P 45 because I heard the trigger could be made similar to the 1911 through an Apex upgrade. While not exactly the same as the 1911, the Apex FSS is pretty close.

Since the purchase and upgrade, I've always liked the M&P.

However, the Glock is a very popular pistol. In fact, I'd say that today the Glock is the most popular pistol. I see them in my classes all the time.

Here's the question:
Have you owned a Glock? Have you switched from the Glock to the M&P? If so, why? Is there something about the Glock in particular you didn't like?

I'm considering buying a Gen 3 G19 (can't get a Gen 4 in CA) because I think it's the best middle of the road Glock. Still, if there is a particular flaw, I'd like to know about it.

My first poly pistol was a Glock 26 although it shot well I couldn't get used to the ergos. Sold the G26 as soon as I picked up a M&P 9mm Pro 4.25". I hate looking down the square slide on Glocks but I am considering a G17 or G21 to use in a carbine kit and change the barrel out to 9" but that won't help you in California. What's good about Glock is the aftermarket parts there are even custom frames available now but I'd go for a Gen4 rather than a Gen3. YMMV :)
Sorry Rastoff didn't read about Gen4's not available in CA. I would choose the M&P over Glock especially with a full APEX kit but two new contenders are the PPQ and VP9 but they have very few aftermarket parts.

I love my glock 23. I think they are a great pistol. However I do not feel comfortable carrying them without a safety. I always have my children with me. I carry m&p' because of the external safety and they are a great pistol. I love the simplicity of a glock. My 23 is my home defense weapon.

I shoot my lady friends gen 3 19 better than all of the autos I own. If Glock would custom-make me a single-stack, TDA 9mm, I would probably switch from my 3914.

I've never owned a Glock, I have nothing against them as someone who used to make my living in the American manufacturing industry I just prefer an American product.

When I decided to go with a Striker fired pistol the top three contenders were

Glock - Put an Austrian to work

Springfield XD - Put a Croatian to work

M&P - put an American to work

The Glock is a tool. Simply put, I have a lot of tools, I have tools for working on my cars, I have tools for working on my house. I keep my Snap-On tools in the toolbox at the house, I keep Craftsman tools in the box in my vehicle. If someone steals them, or they get lost, it doesn't matter, the Snap-On tools are all safe at home. Same goes for the guns...I really like my Smith & Wessons, but the Glock is the tool I carry with me everywhere.

Not a Glock freak, but I appreciate their utility and reliability; I think everyone should own one. As far as the other plastic wonders, you can keep them, especially anything plastic S&W puts out, especially the original Sigma. Just my opinion.

I thought Glocks were made in America now.
I have had quite a few Glocks over the years and I recently bought a M&P. I use it for occasional range play and like it. I use Glocks for duty and HD for many reasons.

I've owned and have been shooting Glocks since 1988. I have a Gen 3 and a Gen 4 Glock 19 and prefer the Gen 3. Put some Talon grip wraps and some decent sights and you wont be disappointed.

I carry a gen 4 glock 19. I don't like the grip angle and I have to concentrate to not shoot high, but it carries easily and the finish is more durable than anything I have found. If my shield held a few more rounds, I'd prefer to carry it though.

Glocks do not point right for me at all. I have bought many a Glock to see if I could get use to them but I always sell them. Icarry a 1911 and love the grip angle so I bought my first M&P 9 last week and will take it out to see how I like it. To me the grip angle is closer to my loved 1911 platform

This is very common. People either love or hates Glocks. For me they point well & I like the grip angle. If the grip angle does not suit you however it is plastic which can reconfigured and stippled to your liking. If you are not comfortable doing this yourself you can send it out to be done.

Glock has been made in Georgia for about a decade now.

For a long time I was anti Glock for the simple fact that everyone kept telling me to "just get a Glock". So I went through a dozen different carry guns before finally getting a used Glock 19. And you know what, I wish I did it sooner. It's a great carry gun. I don't compete in any type of firearm competition so I don't need something that's capable of. ... (fill in the blank). What I like is simplicity and no thrills. I now own several Glocks (two 19s, 22, 21, 17) and always looking for another. Want the 30S.

I tried the M&P and didn't care for them. The compact have too short of a grip (I have the same problem with Glock 26 and 27). And while i didnt mind the full size it didn't do anything my Glocks couldn't do. I always found Glocks to be accurate, accurate enough for self defense. So I just stick with it. I know a lot of people complain about having problems pointing it. I don't. The angle is fine for me. I can go from Sig P to 1911 to Glock with noticing any problems pointing. Sights always align fine for me. And the idea of that angle was that if you could point your finger straight ahead you can shoot straight with the gun.

G22 @ 10 yards. First time out. 3 different groups. Trying to see where it hit. First 2 groups I was aiming to high.

I'm in between- I like them, but I have to make an effort to push the muzzle down. It doesn't point naturally like my other autos do.

Came time to pick a pistol in 2013, I went with M&P over the Glock 17, primarily due to ergonomics.

I shot the Glock at the range to conclude it did not work for me. Plus slide bite. Plus plastic sights. But they do work; you don't get 65% of the LEO marketspace with a poor product. And they are accurate.

(Not to derail this thread, but "today", if I was in the market for a SFA fullsize/compact 15-17 round 9mm in the $500 to $600 price point, neither the M&P nor the Glock would be on my short list. The Sig P320/P320C, the Walther PPQ and the H&K VP9 are all three superior in design to both the M&P and Glock, in my estimation.)

You want a nice concealable 9 mil. look no further than a CZ RAMI. I have carried one for many years. Always goes bang.

I had a Glock 17 G3, it was very accurate for me but my fingers didn't fit in the finger grooves and worst of all the grip was like holding a fence post. I've had 3 S&W M&P's 2 of 3 had to be sent in for poorly made barrels which were replaced. If your hand fits the Gen 3 Glock I say get the Glock.

With that said I just sold my Glock 17 and replaced it with a Walther PPQ 9mm, I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet but just holding it is like putting on your favorite pair of jeans that just fit so well. The PPQ trigger puts the Glock and M&P triggers to shame and this is right out of the box without any additional cost adding Apex parts etc..
