I am seeking advice from fellow forum members. I have been "thinking" of entering into the world of Red Dot sights, but have never owned one, and don't know much about them.
My shooting is mostly indoors, informal bullseye style, so I have been trying to research various options. Some people say to go to reflex sights, such as the Vortex Venom, Trjicon RMR or Leupold Deltapoint. Others have said an Aimpint H1/H2 would be a better option for strictly paper target shooting. And others yet, suggested the Ultradot style that competitive bullseye shooters use.
Please help me as I am a bit confused....If I end up liking the
Red Dot, I would probably put one on my Model 41 as well.

I am looking for more of a slowfire precision style Red Dot sight, but the Ultradots look huge on a pistol....

Thank you for your help.....

I think the main thing you need to ask yourself is; how much bulk do I want to add to the pistol and how much do I want to spend?

There are hundreds of options when it comes to pistol optics with a wide range of cost. Personally I went with a Bushnell TRS-25 on two pistols and a burris fastfire on a 3rd.

I put the Bushnell TRS-25 on mine. No problems out to 50 yards, just took some getting used to. I've never tried any others on anything so my experience is limited to the Bushnell on the Victory. Dave

Before you spend any money, go look at one first. If your eye has an astigmatism, the red dot may look more like a red smudge. Same thing for some types of corrective lenses. I have two Aim Points and a Burris Fast Fire, and use them on the lightest setting that allows me to still see the red, because with my astigmatism, the brighter I have them, the worse they look.

Otherwise, I love them. ;)

The Burris FF3 on my 629 is holding up and I love it. Groups went in half.

I put the Vortex Venom on mine and love it. Small and weightless. 10 shot groups at 25 yards are size of a golf ball and getting smaller the more I shoot it. I think I paid about $225.

I also am using a Burris FastFire III (3MOA) on my Victory, and like joe44va, the size of my groups was halved using the scope. I don't have anything to compare, but I do use Aimpoint red dots on my ARs. I really like the FF3; it's small and weighs almost nothing and can be used in any situation whether your shooting bullseye or steel. I think you would be happy with a reflex red dot and there are several good ones out there. I just happened to see this one on sale at Cabela's for $199 with $5 shipping ... and I had a $25 gift card, so it cost me $179.

Thank you everyone for your input. How does the Burris FF3 compare to the Vortex Venom; is one "better" than the other?

I have an older model Burris on one of my pistols and the Venom on my new Victory. Both work great. However I give the Venom a bit of an edge -- the way it looks on the Victory and the fact that it shuts off when I put the cover on the sight. My wife really prefers the Ultradot on her pistols and doesn't really like the RMR style that much at all. Given the difficulty of finding some of these red-dots you might just end up with whatever is available :)

I think most of them For Sale to-day will fit and do a good job for you. I would look for the one that suits my tastes the best in size and function as well as price. Virtually all of them will work with a weaver plate which comes with the gun anyways.

Thank you everyone for your input. I guess I will have to go shopping later this week.:)

I wish they were that clear and round with my eyes. With the right eye, it looks kind of smushed, with a few red threads sticking out. With the left, I see what looks like two dots merging together on a 45 degree angle. I have lenses to correct the astigmatisms but the wearing them makes the dots look so much worse. It's why I caution people to look at one in person before buying one. :(

Good advise. Before I retired I was a systems analyst and spent most of the day in front of a computer monitor. My employer provided computer glasses if requested, which I did. Turns out they make great shooting glasses since the distance from my eyes to the monitor is approximately the same distance as from my eyes to the rear sights of my pistols. Red dots are a blur to me without glasses and with my regular glasses, but they are crisp with my computer glasses. You might want to check them out; mine have Crizal no-glare lenses.

For the same price as the Burris Fast Fire you can get a C-More Railway. The C-More is the most popular Red Dot used in USPSA and Steel Challenge Matches.

I currently use an Aimpoint H-1 on one of my Victory pistols and an UltraDot Pan-A-V on the other. I had the Aimpoint H-1 laying around, unused basically since the day I bought it (years ago) and finally sighted it in and do quite well with it. I haven't sighted in and used the new UltraDot but will do so this weekend.
