WHAT CHRISTMAS SONGS DO YOU HATE?

I like most all Christmas songs, but after listening to them since early September I'm sick and tired of them by December 1st.

September?
You live in the Philippines or married to a Filipina? :D

I prefer the older, tradional Christmas songs sang traditionally

Angles we have heard on high
Deck the Halls
Hark the herald angels sing
O Tannenbaum
Little Drummer Boy
Adeste Fidelis
Joy to the World, etc

I listen to Christmas music starting the day after TG

similarly ... Missus Venom and I were discussing Oh Holy Night. and how she's never really found a rendition she liked, even after all her years as a church choir director.
That is not an easy carol to perform given it's range and dynamics.
In an SATB harmonized arrangement, dynamics suffer. Due projection and expression will clash with the harmony. Thus it is sacrificed for the overall aesthetic.
She, of classical sensibilities, never explored the field of metal, seeking the works of the likes of the Irish tenors and similar.
Say what you will about the genre, but it is, and always has been a crucible for musicians. This is a good bit closer.

I hope it sat on her;)
Actually, according to the Wikipedia article, the song was a cleverly-disguised fundraiser to acquire a hippo for the Oklahama Zoo. She duly donated it (named Matilda) to the Zoo, where it lived for 50 years.

Now this fella really DID have a pet hippo:

"This candid photograph by Bob Runyon serves to introduce two "bosom buddies" --- Kubla, a young hippopotamus, and his best friend, Wayne Williams. Kubla was born September 13, 1975, and was hand raised in the Portland Zoo. He was introduced to an unusual sheep (Barbary breed) so he would be bonded to an animal. While still very young, Kubla came to the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle and was introduced to a remarkable zookeeper, Wayne Williams. As the picture depicts so well, they were closely bonded. As Kubla developed, it was deemed appropriate to introduce him to a full-grown female hippopotamus. This introduction was accomplished in the presence of elephants who would be brought between the hippos if intervention were to become necessary. Upon seeing Kubla, the large hippo approached him, opened her mouth wide as if to consume him in a few bites - and then gently closed her mouth. (This is regarded as a friendly greeting by hippos.) But, Kubla finally became fed up with the proceedings and went over to Wayne and sat up on his haunches like a dog. Eventually, Kubla adapted to his life of a hippo, and it was fortunate he did, for Wayne died from cancer, leaving many dear animal friends behind at the Woodland Park Zoo including his best and most remarkable friend, Kubla."

I like most of the traditional songs but the trend now seems to be to jazz them up, reset the tempo or some other.
Not sure why they do it, maybe the Hollywood lack-of-talent movie re-maker's have an equivalent in the music world.
When one of new versions starts I just turn it off, change the channel or walk out of the store.

Well, as a fellow Canuck, I gotta tip the hat to Bob & Doug, a coupla genuine hosers who helped spread Canadian culture abroad, eh! Between them and Diana Krall, we run the entire cultural gamut up here. (And for everything else, there's duct tape.)

Well now you're talkin' Red Green....lol :D
You betcha! And I recently found I can get a pair of Perry Suspenders in red & green. Being the shy and unassuming folks we are, they are not available here in Canuckistania, but from redgreen.com in Kansas!

And re Adam Sandler- I can see why there's a Parental Advisory on that... it ain't the "explicit" lyrics, it's the tuning. Oy veh- meshugannah microtones! :D

Songs that make me mute the station as fast as my hand can hit the button:

Jingle Bells by the barking dogs
Santa Baby
Blue Christmas by Porky Pig

There are others that were fine the first 100-200 times I heard them, but now I mostly hit mute.

For real Christmas music, I turn on the local Christian music station.

I happen to love that piece. I am not a trained musician so my opinion is just that, an opinion, but in my opinion it should be sung as a solo by a POWERFUL baritone. I’ve heard it done that way and I’ve never since heard it done another way that I thought came even close to comparing. My .02 on that topic. ;) :)

But I’m with Rusty. I may make light of Christmas music I don’t particularly care for, but I’m not about to let it wreck my mood.
