Here is a little rifle bought new from my grass cutting earnings when I was 13 years old. I've shot a tremendous amount of groundhogs with it and even shot my first fox with this rifle. It was my primary squirrel rifle for a few years but it was absolutely head shots only!
In my college days I was low on cash and smarts. I sold this rifle to a friend because I had a hankering for something else that I can't remember. Years later in casual conversation I asked him if he still had the rifle. He did, and he gave it back to me. Everyone needs friends like that.
When Anguilla made some runs of 5mm Remington Magnum I purchased enough to last my lifetime plus. The great thing is this rifle really likes the new ammo and will keep five shots around 3/4" at 100 yards.
I know a lot of people feel this was just another useless cartridge, but it has served me well with everything I've used it for. If it had been introduced before the .22 magnum rimfire, had been priced more competitively, and supported by other manufacturers in the form of quality firearms I wonder if maybe it would have made it?
This is one of the guns I own that when used, I'm transported back in time with fond memories of hunts I've had with this Remington. It just makes me feel like a kid again.
I've included a few pics of some period advertising and my collection of vintage ammo, all full. The Peters box is not very common.
Anyway, just my opinion, and my plan is to pass it down to a grandson one day, but I'm not done with it yet. (The 5mm is on the left)
