Page 50 (top left) of the new 5th edition of the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson has a photograph of a left stock (used only for a short period of time as it was fragile). My model 68-2 has this stock on it. My questions are: approximately what year(s) were these used and approximately how many were made?
I would also think that these stocks would add a little more value to this revolver.
Thanks in advance.

They have been discussed here and even a pic of your gun is in the thread. They were designed by Roy Jinks and were apparently an early speedloader cut-out design. One member stated he bought a gun new in 1979 that had them. Rare yes, value I don't know. I haven't seen a gun sold with them but have seen a few stocks for sale.

Vtgw938,
I followed the link you posted and that is indeed the photo I had posted in a previous thread. I had conversed with Mr. Jinks and was aware it was a short lived design he had come up with.
After seeing the photo in the 5th edition I was prompted to ask the questions in my above post.

Scott Reitz shows up here once in a while and I suspect you could find his screen name, or maybe google his email address. He writes from his background in LAPD Metro/SWAT and among his service weapons was an M68.
