Let’s see your Ithaca, Colt, Remington Rand or USS&S WWII 1911a1

Thanks I did not know that. They are bakelite material (a type of early plastic used in the 1930s and 1940s) hopefully that won’t happen. Perhaps I should leave them on the pistol and only replace if I take to the range?

They shrink on the gun also, as long as stored properly they are good.

I wish I had photos of a US&S I once had... it was a Naval officer bring back.. complete with white lanyard holster belt magazines & pouches... 98% or better shape.. black barrel... traded it to a friend... his son has it now.. all is good.. just wish I had photos... maybe some day

I bought this 1943 all original Colt from another member of our range . He got it from a family member and the story is it was never issued . Taking it apart I have to agree , if it was shot it was very little . Had to throw in my GCNM Super Elite 38super , 1 of 750 .

I don't have one of those new fangled 1911A1s, all I have is a plain old 1918 vintage 1911.

Only the Ithaca is left. Back when I was heavily into Mil-surps (rifles, pistol, revolvers, knives, equipment, etc.) I was always on the lookout for genuine originals. Granted this was many, many years ago but originals (not arsenal overhauled) of 1911 A1's were clearly out there. You just had to be real careful, have a copy of Clausen available, know how to detail strip, tune-out the blah blah from the Seller while you did your research on the spot. These were big bucks back then and are still big bucks today. I'm still watching the CMP thing and I've been really tempted, even knowing they are mix-masters and overhauled...they are still very darn good, fair buys for the genuine piece of history get.

Something had to go years ago when the slippery slope called S&W 's bit me so mil-surps were first, collector grade 03-A3's, colt 1911A1, Reminton Rand 1911A1....all with the correct magazines, matching serial numbers (on Colt slide face for example). I did shoot those guns, not a lot, but at least once a year, still have the Ithaca, still enjoy shooting it, still can't hit diddly squat...no different than 1966 as a GI with an issue 1911A1....but sure is still a lot of fun! Even the early Argentine (made on Colt machinery, with Colt workers, but in Argentina in WWII with wooden stocks, that someone had "boned" and oiled to perfection.
