The CMP 1911A1 Lottery - some ? and observations

Correct about flipping the CMP 1911s, anyone caught is forbidden from buying anything from them ever again. They’ll feel pretty stupid if a long-lost cache of Bavarian marked carbines ever go up for sale again...

People been flipping CMP rifles for at least 25 years, I don't recall hearing anyone ever getting "caught". I've seen Garands, carbines, 1903's, and M44's at gunshows for sale, CMP paperwork and all, that are no more than a month or two out of Anniston. I don't think they really care.

Back when they had Winchester 52's and Remington 40X's for sale the buyers could buy eight rifles at once. They would send all eight in one shipment. The buyer would "cherry pick" the lot and keep the best. The rest would be sold at two to three times the cost of each rifle, giving them a healthy profit not to mention a free rifle for themselves out of the deal. CMP never did anything about that. A lot of time the rifle were on the market within days of receipt.

Flippers?

I really have no idea how many people entered the lottery hoping to make a profit. My guess is a substantial number figured there was money to be made. I watched the frenzy and had no interest. I had access to and fired Army 1911A1s during my Army hitch and and had no interest in the CMP trove. I have custom 1911s that I shoot regularly in matches. I also have 2 Colt 1911A1s that date to my birth year which are in Very Good condition. I didn't buy them to flip.

I do think people bought the CMP 1911s to keep them from being destroyed by future Democrat presidents.

Glad someone is getting a pistol. I got hung up in the covid shut down. I think they ran my NICS check right before they sent everyone home and I got dropped thru the cracks. I called them about it and they said they would have to run it again. They did that last week but I got delayed again. Amazingly, I just passed a BC about 2 weeks ago so I'm a bit miffed. I think they have some policy of waiting 30 days if you get delayed before they can revisit your status. I may have waited too long to inquire. I had a mid 12000 RGN and those were being processed in March. I'm not real hopeful now because I think they're almost out of pistols.

Oh well, it is what it is. :(

I got my service grade last year. I am happy with it. It is a Remington Rand with a Colt slide but the finish looks original to me on both.

Never been delayed in my life. Bought a gun locally and the background check went through instantly from Tallahassee. Any idea why they would delay you?

My name. My full name was also on a terrorist watch list right after 9/11. That was fun. :D

Not really. I don't usually have a problem with my FFL when I transfer or purchase. Never been denied. My BC usually gets a 2 day delay and then gets a proceed. The CMP evidently has some special guidelines they have to work under with the 1911's due to Army and congress adding their regs. You get two checks when you purchase, one before they ship and another one when you pick it up from FFL. All of that to insure the pistols don't get sold to a prohibited person. That doesn't make a lot of sense to me because that doesn't stop a person from selling to a prohibited person in a state that doesn't have a UBC. I don't understand it but that's the rules. Honestly, I would like to have one but if I don't get one it won't be like I don't have a 1911. I have more than my share. ;)

I got exactly what I was hoping for, a service grade but not perfect looking cosmetically.
Ithaca slide and frame. Just picked it up, more pics coming.
Happy camper.

I'd take one of those if I could just convince the CMP that I'm not a restricted person. :D Called them about a week ago and so far I haven't heard anything positive.
