Haven't posted in ages, but have a few questions about sending a revolver back to S&W for service/repair.
I picked up a model 25-9 with a 5" barrel a few weeks ago. It has seen a fair amount of use, and it's out of time enough to occasionally fail to lock the cylinder.
I'm no gunsmith, so I'm not going to attempt to diagnose or remedy the problem myself. Called S&W and plan on sending it in for repair and an action job.
Couple of hopefully quick questions:
If the ratchet teeth are too far gone to repair, will S&W install a new cylinder or simply send the gun back to me without fixing the issue?
Is the cylinder on the 25-9 identical to later 25- series revolvers or is the ratchet a bit larger in diameter?
Should I remove the stock panels from the revolver before sending it in?
Is ten or twelve weeks (after they've diagnosed the problem) a reasonably accurate expectation for length of service time?
Any other advice anyone feels would be helpful will be greatly appreciated. I have never sent a gun back to S&W so I'm a total nube with regards to what to expect.
Thanks for the help.
