Just because guns

My Skeet group was into doubles, what some referred to a "Rain guns", ( for when they wouldn't take their good gun out in the weather). Most were older 1900 - 1940's with a pretty good drop at the heel. (I could never shoot one of them, so I bought a Ugartechea 12 Ga, I/C & M. It was a more modern fit and I could actually shoot it fairly well even with double triggers on the doubles. Kind of wish I had hung on to it,

That is not a just because gun. All of the flattops are easy carry tack drivers. Yours in 44 special can handle the Keith loads, approaching 44 mag. Not insignificant, because it is good for carry, anywhere.

All precision shooting is done single action as it hunting, so no down side there. I do not have one in 44 special, but just might add one like yours.

I bought a Ruger Flatop Blackhawk in .44 Special back in 2019. It is a brute of a gun that sure looks like it could withstand some near magnum loads. So far, I have just been putting my target loads through it. It is a joy to shoot and surprisingly accurate. I bought it "just because" I didn't wish to shoot my S&W 24-3 which is becoming more and more valuable as time goes on. Therefore, the Ruger is now my frequent shooter and the 24-3 is becoming a safe queen.

Most of mine are "just because" guns. They weren't bought for a particular purpose but they scratched an itch at the time.

This is the newest. M1 Carbine made by Saginaw between May of 43 and May of 44. I had no need for it, but at $650 out the door, I couldn't leave it behind.

I guess you couldn't leave it at that price!

You mean like the 375 H&H I took in trade, but just can't part with.

My just because rifle came along many years ago when I bought a .378 Weatherby just “to go along with my .300.” Unfortunately that started a chain reaction that led to several other such purchases over the years.

Everybody should have at least one “boomer.”

My just because guns tend to be single actions. No plans to carry them. I'm not a cowboy let alone any sort of modern day rancher. They're just plain fun to shoot!

Many to choose from but this Flattop Blackhawk 44 Special is my favorite.

Uh oh, I think that I just heard some thunder. It might be the late great John Taffin (RIP!) disagreeing with your SA comment. His "Perfect Packin' Pistols" were almost all .44 Spl. SAs and not "just because" guns. But I know what you're saying.

I used to buy too many Just Because guns. I've got a HiPoint JHP 45 I can't get rid of that I bought new for $99 to see how they really were (They're awesome, but it feels like shooting a cordless drill). An old Davis 380 for $99 (Terrible, I mean, really really terrible). An old Taurus PT22 (not the poly) with a tip up barrel (They're awesome and fun). A few others over the years. I've always referred to them as Curiosity Guns because I buy them mainly out of Curiosity..

I bought a Star MegaStar 45 from a fellow forum member not too long ago - just because...

It is the chunkiest pistol I currently own, both large and heavy. I have ZERO interest in ever carrying it as I would need leather suspenders just to keep my pants up with that tank strapped to my hip. It is fun to shoot, however, as the tonnage really soaks up the recoil nicely.

No, I don't regret buying it! :D Just sorry I don't have a picture of it to post here.

I have several guns I’ve purchased “just because,” but the best example might be this one.

I don’t shoot black powder guns, but while visiting a small gun show a few months ago this thing kept calling to me. It was cheap, and it just looks cool. It’s currently doing a great job decorating my office bookshelf.

Mark, percussion revolvers in "belly gun" configuration were not unknown on the frontier. I think that one ought be a "blast" to mess with.

My "just because" gun is this old Arminius, Velo Dog style, revolver. Not that I'd shoot any dog with it. Marked as chambered in 320 Central which is basically the 32 Short Colt. It even has a safety to go along with the folding trigger.
