Looks like we are getting a new 617 and 610 mountain gun

I’ve given up on the idea of a reasonably priced 18 so perhaps I’ll jump on a 617 MG…… says they have 4.1” barrels. Is that the case with all the MGs? Will a 4” holster work “

I’m glad to see the new MG line growing but would echo some members in this thread looking for…

An 8-shot .357 N-Frame
A 6-shot .45 ACP / .45 Auto Rim N-Frame

…in future MG offerings.

Both are very attractive but I’ll stick with my K22 Outdoorsman and my 651 Kit Gun for now. If both were priced at $800 plus or minus I’d be adding another Smith to my toy chest. (I won’t mention that I also have a couple Ruger .22’s)

Not surprised, 10mm is the hot "new thing" having many new semi auto platforms and pistol caliber carbine (PCC) applications plus btw you can also shoot .40 SW in a 10mm revolver.

Yeah unless they release a 9mm Mountain gun, this thing would probably be the cheapest (non rimfire) one to feed, as you can get pretty reasonably priced 40 still.

If Lipseys is looking for more ideas a 6 shot K frame, 7 shot L frame or 8 shot N frame Mountain gun in 9mm sans iL with a built in extractor system ( think Model 547 here) that doesn't require moon clips would be great, if it included a spare fitted .357 cylinder even better.

I find this thread fascinating. So many of us are looking at the new no lock releases (many having said they’d never buy an IL gun) and are making comments about how we’d buy it if… (you fill in the blank). OK, I’ll play. Although I had my own “prototype” built nearly a decade ago, I think a Model 616 Mountain gun, a stainless K frame in 327 would be the next, greatest thing to be released. Anybody else want one?

Yes!!! A current 32 cal stainless or blued K frame would be amazing! Don’t know that it would be a great seller though I love the 32 caliber family.

I agree. There is virtually no difference between 41 an 44 magnum performance. 10mm/40 S&W makes perfect sense to me.

22LR in anything but a semi-auto however, I simply do not understand, especially in a large revolver.

I would be all over one of the 617's if I could be assured about the quality. Maybe when they are in the stores and I can inspect one before purchase I might pick one up.
I think I have already ranted about the quality of the L frame Mountain gun I just got. It's pretty bad. Long ratchets, bent frt sight and the grips are horrible. Grips are very proud along the entire length of the backstrap. Plus there appears to be zero finish on them. Finish on the frame and cylinder looks like a 3 year old did it. Not a well done revolver.

I've got my 686MG ordered. I'll likely get the 617MG, and I would 100% get a 327Fed MG.

There is no better handgun for developing and maintaining fundamental shooting skills than a .22 double action revolver. It is also useful for shooting rats in my barn with snake shot and occasionally a squirrel trying to pry into my chicken coops to steal feed. I take the opposite view and have no real use for a .22 auto pistol. I have a nice Browning Buckmark but I haven’t shot it in years. I plan to get one of these 617s and it will take over holster duty on my farm and give my Model 18-4 a break.
