About a month ago I bought a new 610 Mountain Gun and after 5 cylinders fired the gold dot front sight went flying. I called S&W a few days later and was told a replacement was on the way, nothing as of today. Whats going on? If store where I bought it was not few 100 miles away I'd take it back. Not happy or impressed with S&W…..

Are they sending you just the bead? Or a new sight blade with bead attached?
How would one go about reattaching a new bead?
Such a bummer that S&W can't get this right.

Guy I talked to said they would send the bead. Small steel pin with head gold plated inserted in hole on rear face of sight. I asked why they didn't use loc-tite and he said they were afraid it would get" somewhere it didn't belong". Speaks volumes about S&W assemblers. If and when I get it I'll loc-tite it or use the other type to fix it.

Have used various loc-tite for almost 50 years. I know what to do if and when I get the gold dot insert. Going to call S&W again Monday and ask them for a credit or they can take pistol back. Absolutely No Excuse for garbage like this……….

Is that a DX style sight? If so, just buy a Hi-Viz type and be done with it.
I agree wholeheartedly...but only If it's going to be a shooter...if it's part of a collection, then it should be kept original...but otherwise HI-Viz is my go-to on All my carry guns

I have the 686MG. I am quite content with the quality. If that little pin goes away, I'm not going to obsess over it, or trash S&W on the internet. It is just not a big deal...

It's not about what it is, its why it happened...Quality is much more important than a $10 pin. S&W makes guns, they shouldn't be coming apart because the assemblers find it daunting to do it right.

Yes, appears they no longer sell just the bead. You would have to purchase the complete blade with bead installed if the height would be correct for your gun which is what I did for my 66.
Could probably make one up from a brass brad or something but the bottom line is still that the OP shouldn't be waiting over a month for S&W to get one in the mail.

I had a sight for a 1911 once with a brass bead and not near as bright as the true gold bead but was "ok" on a bright day.

Since its almost the end of the month I called S&W yesterday to find out where the gold dot insert was. Talked to a " more informed guy" than on August 1. He told me it was " on order" but every one made was used in production and " one had to be pulled". Have over 20 S&Ws in collection and a few I shoot and carry. Been around guns since I was young and have shot many many different guns over 60+ years of shooting. Basically a Colt 1911 guy and had a nice collection of 1800 Colts years ago. Have a few Colt revolvers but IMHO S&W Made the best. Sadly the new S&Ws are not the same Quality, period. So go ahead all you die hard fans and bash me but its been my 60+ years of shooting and my $$$$, this 610 mountain gun will be the last new S&W I buy.

Long ago I bought a 40 Shield with "factory night sights).......First outing......Left rear vial came out......Second outing front vial came out.......CHEAP crap frorm S&W.......I just made all three white dots.........WHY??? Send it back for more the same cheap crap to fail again?
