:( It's been a long time since I have bought any primers and powder. The last time I bought some I got them from Powder Valley and bought them in quantity to save money. Today I called a local gun store and they had CCI primers for $32 per thousand and pound of 2400 powder for $18 per pound. I know that the gun store is a little higher but I don't have to pay hazmat fees or shipping. Have you folks found Powder Valleys prices have gone up? Is there other places that I should be buying primers and powder from? Don

I buy a lot from Wideners. But then I also buy Wolf primers by the cases. Really nice folks and pretty fast shipping. I just bought one of their Sig P6 German Police pistols. For 30 years old it is really nice!

Widener's Reloading and Shooting Supply INC

Graf and Sons, Widneners, Powder Valley. Just have to compare

I have no problem with Haz Mat fees, if you buy enough at a good price it offsets the higher price and taxes you have to pay if purchased local. Now if it it is just a few pounds of powder then yes, it adds a lot. If you can, stock up, it's only gonna get more expensive.

$ 32.00 per 1000 is about what I last paid for Federal sp at a LGS, and 4 lbs of W231 was around $ 68.00. Sometimes you can buy bulk locally, say 5 boxes of 1000 for $ 2.00 off each, but no matter what you do when you buy on-line the shipping and haz mat will add at least another $ 40.00 to your order (PV has CCI sp primers for $ 24.00 per 1000, but if you ordered 5000 by the time you add haz mat and shipping you're back to $ 32.00 a box). Might as well buy local and support your LGS.

I tend to agree with this. I have shopped around locally also and my LGS had the powder I use (Universal by Clays) for $3.00 less than Sportsmans Warehouse. Their primers are the same price either place. I can't even beat those prices at the gunshow!

I know we should support our local gun shops, but Wally World is hard to beat on price. One note is that once purchased they will not take primers back. They do have limited stock and can't seem to order anything. Our store never has 10mm bullets.

I just picked up 1500 Fiocchi small pistol primers at a gun show for $32. They seem to work just fine and could be my main primer source in the future. I've seen them advertised on line, but, like with any primers, you have to buy large quantities to offset the shipping and HazMat fee.

The prices you quoted seem reasonably normal. I buy from a local guy called Phillips Wholesale (Covina, CA). The powders I use -- 2400, Power Pistol and 300MP -- run me about $17 to $18 per pound. I'm still using up the last 10K primers I bought but just glancing around, primers hereabouts seem to run between $28 to $35 per thousand.

At the last gun shows in Jacksonville and Orlando FL, Small and Large Pistol primers were $30 including tax. Alliant Powders such as Red Dot and Bullseye was $21 per pound including tax. I would say your local store is pretty much in line with the going rates here.

About the same in Ohio as quoted by parabarbarian in SoCal and Norsky in Fla. I caught Remington 1-1/2 primers on sale for $28. Alliant powders are $18 - $22 per pound.

Hawkeye, PM Jesse (NJK nut). He is the proprietor of Tennessee Valley Bullets and will have everything you need. If my cell phone hadn't gone swimming last weekend I would PM you his phone number and fax number.

If those prices are real, then buy from that little shop - that's better than Powder Valley.

Powder Valley is where I mail order from because powder here is $24/lb.

For powder and primers, I am lucky to have an excellent reloading
shop 25 miles away. Nice little ride and we have a favorite
restaurant there too. They are:

Welcome To Recob's Target Shop

CCI pistol primers are less than $30/1K

Browse the site for the rest.

The excellent road house is:

Welcome to Leystra's Venture Restaurant!

Anyone coming thru southern Wisconsin on a bike PM me and
we will ride some of the most excellent back roads in the
country. I am starting to gather a list of the joints that allow
carry too.

I recently made my first order from Powder Valley. Shipping was fast and they had everything I wanted. Even with the hazmat fee on a small order I'm ahead (unfortunately). My LGS just raised his price on primers from $32 to $42 and powder runs about $32-$36 a pound. The price change on the primers means it really doesn't make since to buy locally any more.

I'm hoping someone I know will be going through Reno soon. I'll have them stock up for me.

If your hazmat fee on 5K of primers brings your cost up to $32 per K, then add 8 or 16 pounds of powder and another 5K or 10K of primers at the same time with NO hazmat fee.

I never buy enough quantity to justify the Hazmat fees, so I just buy local.

I can not remember if you were the one that told me about Recobs, but when I was trying to find Win primers during the "shortage" I bought from them, great place.

I used to live in "Dane County Where we know what's good for you"!
Relatives still there.

Crossing the Wisconsin River into Sauk county is like entering
God's country. I'd live there but for my 2 jobs now that I am
"retired".

Twice a year we do this:

Slimey Crud Run | The Official Unofficial website of the Slimey Crud Run

The run goes thru either Sauk or Spring Green as they are the main routes across the river.
Almost as much fun as sex. (And at my age....It's getting closer).
