Where do you buy reloading bullets and powder?

I generally buy bullets online, better selection without running all over town. Powder, either at shows or local stores to avoid haz mat fees since I only buy by the pound. Local club I belong to stocks both bullets and powder at decent prices.

For the stuff I don't cast myself I like Matt's bullets. For jacketed bullets, and that's mostly rifle, Widener’s Reloading & Shooting Supplies. The odd pound of powder I buy locally, to avoid the HAZMAT fees.

Natchez Shooting Supplies for smokeless powder. Buffalo Arms for black.

Buy It Where You Can Find It!

I usually buy odds and ends from estates. This morning I bought 1000 .38 Special 148 grain HBWC's for $100.00. Also got three bricks of 1000 Winchester Small Pistol Primers for $75.00 a brick. Nice thing was no tax or shipping. That saved me $23.00 in tax and what ever the shipping would be. Not a screaming deal, but good enough.

I bought local for over 50 years. I had 2 very reputable local dealers that had a complete selection and reasonable prices.

One was on the 3rd generation and the 4th wasn't interested, so they retired and closed completely. The other retired and sold the business, but the new owners don't care about reloading.

Now I buy from Midsouth Shooter's Supply. Good prices and awesome service.

I seldom buy from any source but Powder Valley. Prices are hard to beat, and service is excellent. I've been a customer since they've been in business, well over thirty years.
While Powder Valley is a reputable company and I have ordered from them in the past, my local shotgun range beats Powder Valley hands down. I try to avoid all the HAZMAT and shipping charges that places like Powder Valley have to charge. When I was shooting competitively, I would stock up at Camp Perry on Commercial Row. Mostly I bought .22 ammo from Champions Choice and reloading stuff from Fin, Fur & Feather. Of course all that was before COVID and the rampant inflation.

All good advice on places to buy. My comment is if you are going to do it take the plunge buy in bulk if you can. You will be surprised how fast the components can get used up. The other thing is you will always be able to sell what you don't use and none of it is getting any cheaper. Anyone who has been at this awhile will tell you that they wish they would have bouht more when they were xxx dollars.

There may come a time where you can't get reloading supplies in the near future.

I buy my powder and primers from one of the LGS's around me. Once in a while, they might have something that I can use and I'll buy it. Mostly I buy everything else from Mid South or MidwayUSA. Mid South usually has good availability on a lot of the bullets I use but I try to support MidwayUSA as much as I can. The Larry Potterfield Foundation provides a lot of resources for junior shooters so I usually shop them first. From a price standpoint, they are all about the same.

Primers/Powder Local if Possible (To avoid Hazmat Fees)
Bullets & Other Needs Midway-Mid South-Recob's & a few others Most Local Bullet prices are not competitive price wise

Unfortunately, I live in California. We don't have any gun shows near me anymore (state basically shut that down). My local gunshop isn't too helpful. Capella's is about 2 hours away. I have a Turner's.

Bullets I use:

Brazos Precision
Acme Bullets
SNS Casting

But I've used many others, many are gone. I highly recommend the 158gr SWC. It's kind of the standard bullet for the .38/.357

Powder is available from Powder Valley, Cabelas, Academy, even direct from the manufacturer.

The only thing I can add to all the excellent comments above is that I purchase the bullets that I do not cast myself at RMR. Jake produced a really excellent product at a great price. Seconds can be had for plinking at even better prices

Fortunately I have two stores that are Reloading Stores. They sell Reloading Equipment and the clerks know reloading. I am a big fan of X-Treme Bullets.

The LGS does Reloading Supplies as a sideline. They rather sell guns and accessories.

Hi,
I'm considering getting into reloading. Where do you guys buy bullets and powder?

I'm starting with 38 Special and 357 Magnum.

Do you have recommendations that you like?

Thanks

How much shooting do you do annually? Do you shoot weekly? Monthly?

I have had friends who got into reloading but they lost interest quickly but they did not embrace Reloading as a Hobby.

You didn't say where you're at. But the Annual NRA Convention has displays from many suppliers. They usually have "Sale Prices" and free shipping. I stocked up on Berry's Bullets last summer, and my UPS driver hasn't forgiven me yet!

Large shooting events often have suppliers set up for selling. Don't expect bullets at a trap shoot, but they probably have your powder, and may have a deal of stuff shipped from their warehouse. The state or regional shoots are usually real good suppling opportunities.

The Free shipping and free hazmat fees are usually the big cost or savings, so look for Specials! I had a big order with Powder Valley a few years ago, and had to cancel it because they wanted to charge me a $15 Hazmat fee for each pound of powder in an 8 pound jug!

Before you order have an idea of the costs and write them out so you can add the things like freight, THEN YOU KNOW IF THEY STICK IN EXTRA FEES!

1.) Generally three times a week (retarded old fart), depends on how many weeks in the month. Federal holidays do screw up the schedule as do vacations.

Started reloading in 1973. Still at it.

I get my reloading components local if at all possible.

I get all my bullets from Rim Rock Bullets in Polson, MT.

Powder brass, and primers from Machine Guns Montana in Kalispell, Mt.
