I am switching over to H335 powder for my 223. Just wondering what your loads are for both 55gr and 62g bullets. Looking for starting point. Using an AR -- 1in7 CCI primers
As usual thanks in advance

What makes you switch? Do you load for any other cf? I started with 335 using Hodgdon info but switched to varget because I can use it in 223, 243 and 308. My ar with 55 vmax and varget shoots sub moa past 200.

748 & Varget is a better choice. A more forgiving load. But I am talking 1 in 8 with a 20 inch bull barrel.

I'm using H335 with bulk 55gn bullets for my range plinking load. I like spherical powders because I use a Lee Auto-Disk powder measure. Using the double disk kit I'm dropping loads of 25.0-25.1gn. 748 was no better, and was harder to get locally.

I normally don't recommend data online, but 25.0gr of H335 with a 52-55gr bullet is a class combination.

I agree with 4barrel's comment about bulk 55gr. bullets. I buy bulk 52gr Sierra MK's for general use. A little more expensive, but if I miss, I know it's my fault.

Bulk 55 will not group well in anything.:)
Agreed. I get 2 inch groups at 100yds. Not great. Good enough for plinking and informal competition with my shooting buddies. And bullets are 9 cents a piece. My rifle shoots much better groups with varmint and match bullets. Sub-MOA. But they cost 18 to 20 cents each. I don't need super groups for most of my AR shooting.

My personal experience, and also that of others, is that 21-22 grains of IMR 4198 and a 52-55 grain bullet will shoot the tightest groups in any .223. One other very important factor, often neglected, is finding the optimum bullet seating depth for your rifle. That alone can make a dramatic difference in group size.

1/3" groups @ 100yds with Varget and 55gr V-Max out of a custom built benchrest AR. I am shooting 55gr X-Treme FMJ out of my Mid MOE and they are doing fine for just messing around.

Yes I have manuals (plural), but being on this sight with the expertise is like cheating, cuts alot of corners. My benchrest days are over , 6mm ppc, just wanted to see what you guys were using, shooting bulk 55 and 62 grn bullets. I've always felt the shooting guys are a info sharing group.
Thanks Jim

A 60gr Nosler works in my 1:14" Ruger bolt action.

With a 1:7 barrel twist you need 70gr or MORE ..............
for the bullets to settle down and give you your best accuracy.

H335 is pretty fast for heavy bullets..........
You should look at 4064 or H414 and check out the data.

A 55gr might work but I highly doubt it at target fps with H335 powder.

I have a lot of 55gr and 62gr bullets, I understand the ballistics of heavier bullets in a 1in7 twist. Just going to shoot these guys cause I have so many. looking at 25 gr of H335,
OR ANY SUGGESTIONS. Will just be shooting 6in plates at 100yds.
Thanks in advance
Jim

Contrary to what has been stated, I had good luck (from an accuracy standpoint) with Winchester 55 grain bulk soft point bullets years ago. Whether other bulk bullets will shoot as well, I don't know, but suspect they might with some experimentation that includes seating depth adjustments.

I load a lot of 55gr bullets in the .223 and I really like H335. My standard charge is 25.0gr H335 and for the AR I use a CCI#41 or CCI-450 primer. For bolt action rifles I will also use a CCI-400 primer instead.

For a 62gr bullet the charge can probably be the same because I have current data that high but I don't load that bullet so I can't give you a first hand opinion. The Lyman AR Reloading Handbook is a very good resource if you load for any of the dozen or so cartridges they cover in the book for an AR style rifle.

Im glad this thread was revived because I also was curious what people like and am dusting off my .223 dies for use. Have not reloaded .223 since the early `80s.
