WST Load 45 Info

Check out the Bulleye.net forum, a lot of those shooters use WST, don't know about it for 230 FMJ loads.

I read that some thought 4.5grs of WST was about right . I had to go up to 5.0 to get the cases to seal and it to burn clean . It's shoot very accurately for me , smacks steel with real authority . It is my " go to " powder for 45acp using 230gr RN , lead and plated . I also really like it in 38spl , target loads in 41magnum and 44 magnum .

My favorite powder for 45acp and 9mm plinking loads. Hodgdon has 4.1gr. to 4.9gr. for a FMJ bullet.
I load 4.2 grains with a Xtreme 230gr. plated. Cycles all my 1991's just fine and very accurate.

I have shot quite a bit of 200gr SWC's coated and plated with WST, it is one of my staple powders for 45acp and 38 special.
I don't think you can go wrong with WST:)

I shoot a lot of 45acp & WST, mostlY 200gr. That 5gr load with 230gr fmj is pretty warm. My load is 4.6gr, oal 1.260", makes 760fps. With a 230gr lrn it makes 820fps. Plated would fall between the two.

4.7 GR 185 JHP OAL 1.2
4.6 GR 185 TMJ SWC

MOST ACCURATE 230 FMJ LOAD WAS WSF 6.3 GR RANSOM REST TESTED AT 50YDS

I started @ 4.0 grs of WST and slowly worked my way up to 5.0 . I use 1.260 for my OAL with 230 gr cast or plated RN . It shoots very accurately ,recoil fairly mild and the spent cases don't travel very far . I use a lot of WSF in revolvers , I might give that 6.3 gr load a try .

Alliant shows a max charge of 6.0 grs of Bullseye powder with the speer 230 gr CPRN , (copper plated round nose ) bullet . That seems pretty warm to me .

4.5 WST behind RMR 230 is my most accurate load for the SA XDM 5.25. IDPA accurate IMO. Good luck!

Follow Up WST Load

Thanks for your input. I usually use 231 5.0 for 230grn 45 plated. I have a new container of WST and have not tried. So I will start with 4.5 samples and 5.0 samples. Again Thank you. After thought 5.0 may be a little stout?

My own 'most accurate/most pleasant' 230 plated RN load has been the WST/WSF powders in the 750~800 fps range, whether for revolver or pistol.

Seems even the 230 RNL likes similar recipes; check out the published charts to confirm.
