For those that remember the Spike Jones and City Slickers...

On the cover of one of the records it looks like he is carrying a S&W of some sort with a shrouded ejector...

For the time it was recorded, it'd have to be a Registered Magnum or pre-model marked 27, wouldn't it?

Since we have people on here that seem to know what most of the stars that were gun nuts owned, anyone know this one?
Inquiring minds want to know. :)

Or a .38/44 Outdoorsman, maybe. That looks like a postwar low-spur target hammer. Depending on the year that album was released, I guess the gun could even be a Pre-29 or 29.

Could have been a Triple Lock, Model 1926, a 38/44 Outdorsman or a 38/44HD

During WW2,the S&W assembly lines were turning out Victory Models, under the control of the Army, however the service dep't made up a special revolver for Spike Jones. That may be what you see in the picture. Ed.

I'm going to say that this is a .44 Magnum (pre M29, M29, maybe a M29-1 or -2).

It has a 6 1/2" heavy, ribbed barrel, a long, recessed cylinder, and a target hammer. It is wearing smooth target grips. The front sight is a ramp and you can see two pins holding it to the rib.

Spike Jones died in 1965. The M57 didn't come out until 1964, so that leaves the .44 Magnum as the logical choice.
