Model 25 - "Stamping Error"?

I believe that Mod 25 would be a 25-2. Around 1976, I purchased a M25 new as a Mod 25-2, which I immediately returned due to a problem. When it was returned, it had a new frame that was stamped "29" under the yoke and over stamped with a "25". When I questioned S&W about the over stamped model number, they assured me that I received a Mod 25 frame. I have since learned that the M29 and M25 had the same frame dimensions, that is the frame where the barrel is connected is a little larger than other N frames.
