Hoppe's 9 quick clean rust and lead remover cloth
After cleaning the gun with this cloth should I follow up with anything else??
I just gave my 28-2 a good rub down. Now what??
Sorry for the crumby picture.

I had already cleaned it up but the cloth just let me know that it wasn't as clean as I thought it was.

Be very careful with any type of rust remover on blued steel. The blueing is a form of rust and that type of cloth can rub through the blue finish. Hoppe's warns of that possibility.

Definitely be careful with rust and lead removing cloth as it can definitely rub through blueing. As for what to use to protect the revolver after such a cleaning, either oil, a clp product, or Renaissance wax.

You've got it looking good. Ren wax would be a good idea or just a wipe down with an oily rag.

Ren Wax (or furniture wax will do)
Oily rag is ok but not too oily

Yes, package it up good, and i will PM you my shipping address
I use Kel -Tec #110 pure silicone applied to a 6" sq patch of real lambswool, and wipe the gun down. 50 years, never a freckle

Thanks everyone for the advise. I read the warning and tried it very carefully first and saw no signs of any blue on the cloth.
I mainly wanted it to remove the carbon build up in those reliefs in the cylinder which it did.
I bought some Renaissance wax as per recommendations here and that's what I'll finish up with.
My gun range is an outdoors one so as soon as it warms up a bit I'll be warming it up too.
That and I need to sight in my m27 after having a friend replace the bent rear site blade.
Thanks again.

Ren Wax is good. You can put it on the stocks also, especially on the inside, to help protect them. You don't want oil soaking into the stocks.

OK, never having heard of the Hoppe's product, I went online, and of course i ended up at Amazon, and read reviews, and the low raters liked the Birchwood Casey cloth best. Personally I have no opinions, other than to say I do like BC products

I'll get one of these and try it on my two 686s.
On edit I just ordered one.

Finished up with a coat of Ren Wax this morning.
For some reason it doesn't have quite the shine like my 27-7 does.
Its overcast and snowing so the lighting this morning is horrible.
I keep this one on my nightstand.

If the Birchwood Casey cloth is better than my Hoppes 9 cloth I can't wait for it to get here.
I cleaned what I thought was already clean my 686 no-dash with Flitz and thought it looked dang nice.
Tonight I rubbed it down with my Hoppes 9 rust and lead removing cloth and and I was surprised at how much more gunk came off the gun.
Then finished it up with a coat of Ren Wax and it looks even nicer.
I sure appreciate all the advise from everyone.

That is a really nice looking Model 28. As for it not having the same level of shine as your Model 27, unless you send it out to some place like Ford's, it never will. The Model 28 was a less expensive version of the Model 27, designed more for use by law enforcement. Instead of the variety of barrel lengths, front sight options, and finish options of the Model 27, the Model 28 was available in 4 inch or 6 inch barrels, but nearly all of them (except for special orders) were finished in a satin blue, adjustable rear sight, ramp front sight, and no checkering on the top strap.

Thank you. Its one of my favorites.
There was a little tongue in cheek in my comment about not being as shinny as my 27-7. It was made in the Performance Center and has a beautiful finish.
My brother bought this 28-2 new in 1978 and let me take it rabbit hunting. After a few hunting trips he put those Pachmayr grips on and told me they were better suited for what I was using it for.
He gave it to me four years ago and told me that I was the only one who had ever shot it, he'd never even put a round thru it.
It has a whole bunch of sentimental value to me.

Sometimes the finish on an M28 will surprise you. I have a couple that are finished much better than the econo-finish (brush blue or satin blue or whatever they called it then). It may have been just the luck of the draw as to M28 finishes. I surmise that guns going in large orders to LE agencies got the cheapie finish whereas those destined to fill gun store orders for civilians may have gotten extra attention. Of course, this type of speculation is worth what you paid for it.

Good for the gun, stocks and the box and holster if you have one.
