The five inch 29-2s are few and far between. Give us the SN and someone here can tell you the likelihood of its being original. Likely would be in the S237XXX range and shipped in 1963/64. Post pictures and you'll get good information. Welcome to the Forum. If it is legit it is worth three or four (or more) times the average 29-2. Good luck.

Welcome, Frank44MAG, to the best group of firearm enthusiasts -anywhere!

As already mentioned, pictures and serial number information will go a long way toward being able to help.

Five hundred .44 Magnums were ordered by H.H. Harris in 1958. Apparently, delivery was spread out over a number of years as they were delivered up until around 1965 and spread out over different model and dash numbers. My 5 inch 29-2 with serial S2317xx was shipped in February, 1963. What I last heard was less than 300 are known to collectors. That number may have just increased by one! There were a handful of special order guns by individuals before that as well. Not many are seen for public sale, but my uneducated guess would be it may be worth around $4,000 in the condition you describe.
Doc44 is the expert on .44 Magnums here on the forum and I'm sure he will be along to add additional information.

Frank44Mag:

Welcome to the forum. Great place to hang out and share information.

If you are a revolver novice, be sure to measure your barrel correctly. That is from the face of the cylinder to the muzzle. This will give you the proper measurement.

Put up some pictures of your treasure so we can all drool.

Well OP

I can tell you your first challenge is going
to be convincing the membership here that you actually
acquired a legitimate 5 inch 29-2.

There are between 300-400 44 Magnums with a 5-inch barrel. In 98 percent or better condition, they will easily sell for $4500 plus. The Model 29-2s were shipped to a variety of distributors, mostly in 1963, with a few being shipped later.

If you want to check your revolver for authenticity, send me the serial number via a PM as I have a list of serial numbers that I believe includes most of the 5-inch guns.

I think that SN (1973) is too late to be part of the several hundred discussed above. Never say never though, we'll see what Bill thinks. And the cokes look great; nice find.

Would you happen to know what barrel length that gun came with by the numbers I did acquire another barrel in the collection there’s a chance it could be from that gun.

The serial number of the Model 29-2 dates it to 1974, whereas, the barrel and stocks date to 63-64. A former owner replaced the original barrel with a 5-inch barrel and the original stocks with coke bottle stocks. Your Model 29-2 is a fine looking revolver, just not original.

Bill

Thanks for the information there was a loose barrel in the collection Any chance you can figure out what barrel came with that 29-2 and I also had several sets of stocks from that collection.

I think I’d leave it as is. A 5” 29 has a lot of appeal and you might be surprised at how much you could sell it for
