It's been awhile since I've posted here.....my bad. To be honest I'm not even sure I'm in the right forum. I have a excellent condition Model 60 no dash serial #R295xxx and don't know what year it was made. I have fairly large hands and wear a size large glove. I have tried the factory RB Magnas, the factory Magnas with a t-grip adapter and boot grips and by far the best grip configuration that matches up this little gun and my hand is the old Uncle Mikes finger groove rubber Combat grips. Given they are no longer made I feel very fortunate to own a pair. But I really am a wood grip kind of a guy. What I'd like to have is a pair of wood grips that are basically clones of the Uncle Mike Combat configuration. I have looked at the grips on the Altamont site and they have some but am hoping someone here can give me alternatives to the Altamont's. Everything I saw at Altamont was checkered(the side panels and most are also checkered on the backstrap) and I would like just finger groove Combat grips smooth.....no checkering, Can anyone here tell me when my j frame was made and point me in the right direction to find grips configured the way I'd like them?

Check out Badger Grips, the three finger combat style grip. Lots of wood options.

Hogue makes wood grips similar to the Uncle Mikes Combat stocks, with or without checkering I believe.

The factory made RB J Frame fingergroove Combat stocks also, but not in the same dimensions as the Uncle Mike's rubber type.
I have a pair on my model 60. Purchased new in the 80’s. A perfect match for my slightly larger than average hand.
Ok....thanks for the responses guys. I looked at the Hogue website and those look very close to the same config as the Uncle Mikes and it looks like I can buy them from Amazon. Anybody got a pic of their M60 or M36 with the factory combats on them. Thanks again for the help....this is a great site......Mike

I have a set of those S&W J RB Combats. We had them on my wife's M-36 but we changed guns for her. Those stocks are in the basement now, waiting.

When I got my Model 60-4 it came factory equipped with stone ugly Goodyear grips from Uncle Mike’s (not my uncle!). It got a few pair of “trial” grips until I found this pair of very dark rosewood grips from Thailand by way of eBay. Unlike the S&W, these smooth finger grip combats have wood covering the back strap, and to my mind at least has a more attractive shape.

thanks for the posts and pics. I liked the look of the Hogue grips but thinking back I tried their combat grips on another gun and recall they were one-piece and the attachment was via a metal stirrup on the bottom of the grip frame that the grip screw went in and didn't like that set-up much so probably won't be going that route. I like the factory combats I've seen here and on ebay. I like the Badger's. I guess I'll sit back for awhile watching ebay and the classifieds here and maybe the right thing will come along.
This is the best handling factory grip on a J frame for my hands.

I have large hands and wear an extra large glove but I also have short fat fingers. I like the J frame guns and have a problem finding grips to fit my hand. Curtis Harlow solved my problem! Curt also has some very beautiful grained wood to choose from! I chose plain Jane wood for function, not looks!
