I have the opportunity to purchase a Model 31. I've had 31's before but this one is nickel. The blue book and the SCSW indicates this one should be only in blue. It appears to be original, is in .32 S&W Long of course. The ejector star (don't be too hard on me if that's not the correct term) is blue and underneath it on the cylinder is stamped with a "N". A curious thing is that when you open the cylinder, the frame is marked Mod 36 but the "6" has a vertical "1" stamped directly over it and another "1" stamped to the right and slightly down from the "6". I don't have the revolver so I can't post pics, unfortunately.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

DAMN!!..just when I thought that I did not have another "grail search" in my routine along comes this information and I am getting ready to leave for a shop tour as soon as I finish tying this..thanks guys..all5x

Dick,
Yeah, I was just logging on to correct the SCSW reference. The Blue book is wrong but not the Smith book. I didn't think about the overstike "1" and the "1" next to it meaning "31-1" but I checked the serial number and it is a 31-1.
