i have two one 45 colt and one 45 acp both round butts, one has compact ahrends grips and the other has craig spiegel grips both give plenty of grip without being to big.
I'd prefer to own a 'vintage" blued gun. Stainless steel and 45 Colt, while extremely practical for many, seems disharmonious to me. But then, I'm an old traditionalist... emphasis on old.
This one started out as a square butt, but using a hacksaw and some files, I turned it into a round butt back in the '80s, before round butt N frames became available:
There are quite a few round butt N-frames chambered for 45Colt.
In the common category would be the Model 25 Mountain Gun or model 625 Mountain Gun. Both of mine have had the factory suppled grips replaced with the older factory combat stocks.
Then there are the less rare variations like the Scandium framed 625 snub nosed N-frames. These are wearing the factory supplied boot grips. However this was a limited Performance Center offering.
There was also a 3" stainless framed 625 chambered for 45 Colt that had a full lug barrel. I do not have picture for you, but I am sure another forum member will post one. This was also a limited Performance Center offering.
Then there were the Heritage Series model 25 offerings from about 8-10 years ago. These were Performance Center guns as well.
Probably some more variations that I am forgetting to list.
Sorry to hear you are averse to stainless N frames in 45 Colt. If you run across any you don't want to buy just send them my way ,, I'll take all I can get.
I do not see why you could not have a pair of N magnas or targets fitted to your hands. Our very own forum member V.M. (Mike) could do it for you with little trouble.
Any of my N frames in 45 would be the last to go, I am that passionate about shooting and collecting them.
25-5 4" ,25-9 4" ,25-7 5" , 625-7 6.5" power port ,625-7 P.C. 6" .
Maybe the "fuzzy Farrant grips on the 2nd. one back might suit you.
Check with Herrett's Stocks in Idaho. Herrett's won't sell you grips unless you send them a tracing of your shooting hand first. I'll bet a nice pair of Jordan Trooper grips cut for your hand will make a big difference. You would be amazed of the huge difference grips fit to your hand makes on these big frame revolvers. I have a M625-2 Rd butt and it's getting Smooth Rosewood Jordan Troopers from Herrett's.
