HKS speedloaders are made for J frames. Which one to get depends on the caliber of your gun.

Sometimes the grips will make the speedloader a bit fiddly, or block its use. Then, it's modify the grips, change them out or use something else to reload with.

Okc,
HKS makes the model 36A for 38 caliber 5 shot J-Frames. If you have a 357 caliber the same model will fit it also. Depends on the type grips you get whether your speed loaders will fit. My paws are kind of large for the J-Frame "Boot-Grips", so i went to the S&W Combat Finger Groove ones. Then i discovered that the speed loaders would not slide past the finger hump. Got my Belt-Sander going & notched out the grip so the speed loader slid in easily. I'm now a happy camper & carry my 649 with a couple speed loaders. Good luck.

Here is what I have come to find as far as speed loaders for the J-Frame guns.

1. You can have your cylinders cut for moonclips. (this gets mixed reviews).

2. HKS 36. They are cheep. (I hate them).

3. Safariland COMP-I. These are my favorite for speedloader carry but they take some getting used to.

4. Jetloader by Buffer Technology. FAST!!!! However they are pretty bulky. The spring action is pretty cool.

5. 5-Star 05J. Same thing as the HKS but made from aluminum and they look nicer.

6. Bianchi Speed Strips. Best for pocket carry.

7. TUFF quickstrips. Pretty much the same thing as the speed strips.

8. S.L. Variant. Each round is spring loaded. About the same size as the Jetloader. (I prefer the Jet)

9. DADE loader. Old outdated and hard to find. (don't waste your time)

10. Maxfire Loader. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY. These are bulky. They are not fast. It has been documented that they can damage the crane of your gun.

If you are looking for something to carry I would go with the speedstrips and the COMP-Is. They take some getting used to but they are the most compact design and they are secure.

Hope this helps.

i had the same problem you have to use uncle mike boot grips or just use speed strips hope this helps.

The new rubber grips S&W is putting on the J frames will not work with speedloaders unless you grind on them a bit. I don't know why S&W doesn't address this.

I just got two copies of the Safariland COMP-1 Revolver Speedloader from Midway USA (they're on sale - $9.99) and like the instructions suggest, they don't work with my stock S&W grips (Model 60, 3")

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove a "skosh" from the grip? Dremel tool, Xacto knife, angle grinder, sandpaper and sweat?

Any and all input will be appreciated.

9. DADE loader. Old outdated and hard to find. (don't waste your time)

I'm not sure I'd agree with this. There are some who'd say a lot of the guns folks on this forum have are old, outdated and hard to find, thus not worth wasting time on. ;)

The Dade loaders really aren't difficult to find and work fine for what they are.

This is a decent video review of the more common speedloaders: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSDAZLc5Jgg
