I had such good info researching the Pre Model 10 I just sold for an estate. Here's another one I'm trying to research, it's a Model 67-3 and has some features I've never seen on a Combat Masterpiece before. Fortunately it doesn't have the hole above the cylinder latch so it is pre lock, and it has a hammer mounted firing pin so I believe it still has a forged hammer and trigger not MIM. What is unusual is the heavy barrel as oppose to the pencil barrel I'm use to seeing on Model 67s. Also it has a round not square butt which is rather neat. The gun has been fired but is in excellent condition with perfect timing and a glass smooth action. Red ramp front sight and a plain blued blade rear. The rear sight by the way is fitted neatly into the frame and I beleive the frame is drilled and tapped under it. These rear sights I believe came in with the dash 3 series and really look better than the older style. There is no box or papers. What is the current market value in your opinion?

In my area my local dealer would probably have $550 to $600 as the list price in very clean condition. With cash in hand probably $500 would buy it.
With a heavy barrel, it looks like a keeper to me.

Just to experiment with the round butt on this 67-3 I took off the factory Uncle Mikes grips and put on a set of Hogue S&W Bantam K frame grips that originally were on my Governor. I think these grips feel better than the factory Uncle Mikes. In any case the round butt change to what had traditionally been a square butt design was a good move.

In my market area 38 Special K-frames don't get the same kind of money as a K-frame magnum -- so, if you are trying to sell the gun -- which appears to be in super condition -- I would think a fair price would be $450 to 475 at the low end at retail -- if you need to move it fast. $475 to $525 would be fair mid-range. Above that is a little much for a 38 Special -- unless somebody just loves 67s.

Mag, I bought my 67 no dash 1 year ago for $375 on Guns America. Clean gun, but came with the wrong grips.(was wearing n magnas) too bad for me! Did not realize it right away, because I took them off. Anyway, if a .38 will do it for you, then a 67 surely will! Bob

You got a steal and a great deal. LOL. I bought a brand new #67, paid $695.00 + tax 10% and fees $50.00. Well, this is CA. Your revolver looks as good as mine which was factory new, fired once out of the box. This gun is a brute, 36oz and can handle all the heavy loads including 180 and 200 gr self-defense loads if you can find them.

Interesting gun. I never realized that they were made with the 66 contour barrel. Nice without the shrouded ejector rod....but I prefer the original taper.
I've always found the -3 very desirable, I prefer the heavier barrel. I missed a square butt version (transitional?) on GB a few months ago.

This was a 3 year old thread but yes the 67-3 was the first SS CM to have the wide rib barrel, Think of it as a SS version of the Model 15-5 to 15-7...
To speed up production and simplify production S&W dropped the tapered barrel and made the wide rib version available in 4' and 6"...
They also made the 14-5 and -6 with full underlug barrels so all versions have a frame that will mate to a full underlug barrel....
(basicly the same as the Model 19 & Model 66 frame)

It sure would be nice if the original posters of all these what should I ask for my gun threads followed up with what they were able to sell them for.
This 67-3 reminds me of 66-4s. Their manufacturing time periods must have been about the same.

I did sell it but it was so long ago I forgot how much I got, I think it was around $450.

I just bought a 67-3 new unfired (new old stock) with box, papers, etc., for $750 and was happy to do so. I paid full but fair price. I'd been looking for a NIB one for my collection for over three years, so I was thrilled to finally find one at an OK price.
It's all about supply and demand, and the 67-3 is one of the rarest and best pre-lock 67's.
