Best movie for revolvers?

Magnum Force for sure. That being said though I watched Shawshanke Redemption a few weeks ago and Andy Duprame had a colt detective 38spl.at the beginning of the movie while Warden Norton offed himself in his office with a S&W mod.10 2"bbl.

Jackie Browne

Also Reservoir Dogs was bound to have a revolver or two or three

Death Wish, with Charles Bronson, using a Colt defective 38,may not be one of the best but worth considering.

Magnum Force and Dirty Harry in general are great fun, but as far as firearms handling, they're pretty lame. Remember the silencer the dirty cops had on their revolvers? And Clint shooting that 629 one handed was stupid, too. Not to mention carrying a 6" revolver to begin with.

All the Dirty Harry movies for sure, but also the 48 Hour Movies with Nick Nolte, was pretty good when he was using a revolver.

"Bullet" starring Steve McQueen, 1968. He carried a M19 snub in an upside down shoulder holster. I snuck off my beat and into a theater for a short while to watch the famous chase scene.

While I like 'Bullitt", one must study the movie closely to determine that his revolver is a 2.5" Colt Diamondback. He keeps it holstered way more than he should and ends up shooting it ne handed in a gunfight. As a Revolver Movie it comes out short.

True! But as a car chase movie it's tough to beat! :D

The only revolver example I could think of that has not already been mentioned was another Single Action scene.

It was when Tuco was assembling a revolver from parts of other revolvers in "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly". Not the best portrayal by any means but it was cool watching...

It is certainly not the best but there were some very interesting vintage revolvers used by the bikers in "Hellride". These were characters that you would expect to have semi-autos, I suspect there was some hidden meaning with the revolvers but it was lost on me.

Now I know that "629" just has to be a typo....right?

Dirty Harry & Magnum Force for sure.

I think everyone wanted to buy a .44mag after seeing Clint Eastwood with one

In "Monster", a 2003 crime drama film about serial killer Aileen Wuornos, actress Charlize Theron portrays real life serial killer Wuornos killing 7 men with a S&W M617. The events in this movie took place in the late 1980's, but the revolver (10 shot?) has the dreaded lock, which would have been current when the movie was made in 2003. Maybe they should have checked Gun Broker for an authentic pre lock model!

Well, not a D/A, but a single action - Cant remember the name of the movie, but Clint Eastwood is a retired gun fighter, now a down and out pig farmer. Takes a "contract" on a couple guys who cut up a prostitute.

The scene where he comes riding into town on a rainy night, and finds his innocent partners body hung up outside the saloon. When he walks in, asks who owns the bar, then draws both his Colt S/A's and gets down to business.....Thats a classic.

Unforgiven, William Munny out of MO.

He used a DB shotgun first that missfired on the second barrel, then a Schofield .45.

My choices would be: 3:10 to Yuma starring Russell Crowe. Ben Foster carried a brace of S&W top-break "Schofield" Model 3 Americans.

Vera Cruz had lots of classic "Colts" and "Winchesters" with Gary Cooper, and Burt Lancaster both being fast on the draw.

An array of both DA and SA revolvers, in The Professionals. Lee Marvin carried both a 1911, and according to [IMDB] an early Colt Official Police. Interesting, since they started Model production in 1927 and the movie timeline [ca. 1916] pre-dates it. A S&W Victory Model in .45 ACP would have been more appropriate. Also, Jack Palance [Raza] sports a Colt New Service 1917.
As did, Robert Ryan's character [Hans Ehrengard].

In Sam Peckinpah's masterpiece, The Wild Bunch Bill Holden, Ernest Borgnine, and Ben Johnson carry both 1911's and Colt SAA's. Actor Albert Dekker [railroad dick] sported a Colt New Service also.

In the movie, Payback Mel Gibson [Porter] reprises the role of 'Walker' played by Lee Marvin. He uses a Model 29 S&W with a 4" bbl.

In Blue Steel, Jamie Lee Curtis did a fantastic reload while shot in the arm (with a 44 magnum. Would have been a bit more than a flesh wound). She jams the model 10 into her belt with the cylinder open, and reloads one round at a time from a dump pouch. This was before speed loaders were authorized. She also used her uniform tie as a tourniquet to tie off the arm from the bullet wound. Cops never use actual ties. lways clip on in cae someone grabs you by the tie. Still, Jaime Lee had some traning before that movie, I can guarentee.

"To Live and Die in LA!"

William Petersen has a 2.5" Model 19, and there's a lot of other wheelguns in there. Classic 1980's movie, from when revolvers weren't "retro" but the norm............famous car chase going down the wrong way of the LA Freeway........soundtrack by Wang Chung, you can't beat it!

Magnum Force is also one of the best. The Police shooting match was a great scene, with David Soul and his Python vs. Clint with the famous Model 29. I always thought Tyne Daly had a custom 2.5" Model 29 that was done for the movie, I guess I'm wrong:cool:

I'm voting for SA's on this one (Magnum Force for DAs), and in this order:

The Good, the Bad & the Ugly

The Outlaw, Josey Wales

True Grit (By God girl, that's a Colt's Dragoon!)

Yep on both of those! The "body guard" of Wilem Dafoe in "To LIve and Die in LA" carries a 4" M15 and uses it to good effect.
I have a very good revolver movie that no one has mentioned yet....Don Johnson's( A Gunsite graduate) "Dead Bang". It's about as good a wheelgun movie as it gets. He shows excellent technique in the movie with his 6" Colt Python.
Another one is James Caan (another Gunsite grad) in "The Way of the Gun" good old school snubby action!
